Does anyone know a list of areas where this is available?

I checked the coverage last night: https://www.vodafone.co.nz/network/coverage/

Basically it's not available anywhere of use unless you live on the north shore. I suspect Vodafone were first to announce and will be the last to actually make it available everywhere

👍

VodafoneNZ Started off good then silence and SparkNZ @hio77 just marched over the the top of you!

Hi team. Thanks for connecting me as there are some important corrections here:

1) We updated our coverage map last week to reflect the wider Auckland VoLTE enablement – the one you are using is the older map.

2) Spark are in trial phase as per their latest website.. https://www.spark.co.nz/search?q=4g%20calling&site=spark
They don’t have a 4G Voice coverage option on their map so hard to tell where they are testing.
And looks like they testing on IOS devices only for now.

So summary:

Live VoLTE 4G calling service

Live across wider Auckland and RBI2 sites. And rest of the country being activated progressively

Supports 4G to 3G handover to ensure call continuity

Supports a wide range of devices live today (on latest software version):

· iPhone 6 and above
· Samsung S9/S9+, S10/S10+/S10E, Note 10
· Huawei Mobile P20/P30/Nova 3i now. (Nova 5T – October)
· RBI/FWA CPE B525
· Vodafone Branded ZTE and Alcatel devices

Hope this helps.

JP

I see VoLTE on all my calls in Auckland since last week now, plus 700MHz 4G enabled in lots of central Auckland now too so I'm not dropping back to 3G in basements anymore which is awesome.

A couple of questions though @JasonParis

  1. What about VoLTE and international roaming?
  2. What about MOCN/MORAN and international roaming? Detail on why below.
  3. When will VoWi-Fi come?

I just spent several weeks in UK/France/Spain on roaming and almost every time I went into subway stations & trains I would lose signal entirely. Other people around me on the same network as VFNZ's local roaming partner e.g. VFUK, SFR (France), VFES (Spain) would retain coverage. I'm guessing the subway stations & trains use some kind of MOCN/MORAN solution to provide coverage underground and for whatever reason VFNZ's roaming agreements don't extend to this. Can/will this be resolved as it was annoying especially when relying on iPhone maps for directions & stops to get off at.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

It's all coming...

1. Early days for VoLTE roaming. Most operators are focused on getting their local network rolled out before getting into the setup and testing with other operators to support roaming. We'll be looking at it as the next phase, but not until we've completed a national VoLTE rollout. In the meantime, 3G voice is still supported when roaming in all countries (as well as 2G in most cases).

2. Subway coverage - most networks should have coverage in the subways and normal voice and data roaming should work. Vodafone UK have VoWiFi, including in the London Underground (& anywhere there’s open WiFi), so it could be that other people were on that, rather than the mobile network. VFNZ roamers won’t have access to this until we have VoWiFi and VoLTE/VoWiFi roaming with UK.

And if a network is utilising 3G MOCN/MORAN, we’d have full roaming access as the MORAN/MOCN is shared at the Radio, and the roaming is determined at the Core.

3. VoWiFi is on the roadmap, but our current focus is VoLTE.

Any news as to whether Kogan Mobile customers have immediate access to VoLTE too? I guess they have to in VoLTE-only areas?

I just asked on Kogan mobile chat and they said that VOLTE will be available with a Kogan sim.

Is VoLTE available for prepaid customers? The coverage website implies being on a supported plan.

I'm using an International S9 (SM-G960U1) (using the latest available software). I cannot enable the feature (it's not on the menu).

I was travelling overseas recently and was able to use VoLTE after popping in a VF NL SIM.

Should I keep my hopes up that it will work at some point?
