Yes, HFC was an option yesterday on One for my address, gone today.

So looks like I will be moving from HFC to fibre. I have two choices for One fibre plans: Everyday Fibre at 500 mbps or Fibre Max at 906 mbps.

Will Everyday Fibre be a downgrade in speed to what I amused to with HFC or am I unlikely to notice any difference? (not a gamer, just stream at 4k).

4K streams can be anywhere between 25-35mbps. Hell you'd have a great time at 100/20 aka the starter plan.

Almost nobody needs Fibre Max.

And remember that you're not obliged to stay with One for your Fibre Broadband: unlike HFC, anyone can play the game and be your RSP / ISP. I would be surprised if ⁨you really noticed the 'downgrade' from 800/100 (HFC) to 500/100 (UFF)⁩

For an address in Paraparaumu, I get these prices for 500/100 fibre:

TBH after using a HFC plan when at someones house in wellington, it would be an upgrade.

The 100/20 plan would easier accommodate that - plus you’d be saving $$$$ at the same time

Would be interesting to know how many households on HFC don’t have fibre installed yet. Both Chorus and Enable could start to get a little busy!

Give them some time to have had the upgrade to 5g router delivered and setup find that its not gonna work before they get busy with fibre.

Thanks - I'm in Kapiti as well, so this was useful.

Am planning to stay with One - not only are they the lowest cost, with One I can pick up 2 x Deco 50 mesh wifi for $195 over a 12-month term which is less expensive than purchasing from retail, and the 2 x Deco are the same price as the single router option from Spark. ps. I'm not not affiliated with One in any way.

They're busy scrubbing the site,

A google header for One NZ BB gives this preview, but if you click though to the page the only mention of HFC are in the T+C stubs that haven't been purged yet,

its like Stalin's time , HFC has become a "non-person"

broadbandmap.nz shows cable only (orange) in Pegasus, with a tiny square of fibre (pink) in the middle. I guess it's not entirely up-to-date as earlier comments on here indicate parts of the suburb do have fibre available, not just a tiny square of it. Wireless is also available too (as is satellite).

That little Pink bit is the School,

"Currently, fibre is only available at the Pegasus Bay School"

https://www.pegasusresidentsgroup.com/post/fibre-in-pegasus-update-july-2022

Google suggests there are about 1700 residential sections in Pegasus.
How many Starlink customers in that small area before SpaceX marks it as oversubscribed and stops taking orders?
It seems like it's the only available alternative

I'd guess it'd be hard to improve cellular coverage because there's no fibre to backhaul to needed additional cell-sites?

Site's back up, but rather ominously(?) I entered in some random address in Pegasus and it now shows nothing is available - no fibre, no 5G, no 4G, no nothing.

If they're really switching off cable, I hope they have a very good plan in place to sort out all the people who are currently on cable and can't get anything else (in places like Pegasus).

Google maps says that Pegasus is about 2 square km,  i also says that Starlink performance falls when customer density rises above 2.5

customers per km2 (although this sounds low)) even at 10x that rate,  that's still only 50 connections in all of Pegasus

No, the pink bit is not the school (and it's not tiny) - it encompasses around 77 houses:

The views expressed by me are not necessarily those of my employer Chorus NZ Ltd

Well, tiny when you compare it to all the orange around it 😀

Still no (official) word yet?

Most cell sites are not fed by UFB fibre so probably not an issue at all. Cell sites normally use 'business grade' fibre from the likes of Spark, One NZ, or other fibre companies and not Chorus/Enable/etc UFB.

I can see 3 cell sites - 1 for each network already there.

One NZ has impressive capacity (GSM 900 / UMTS 2100 / LTE 700+1800+2100+2600) so I suspect that site is already fibre fed. A simple 5G upgrade could be enough to provide enough capacity.

2deg has all LTE bands as well as 5G already - so almost certaintly business fibre fed and possibly enough capacity.

Spark is a worry - only 3G 850 and 4G 700/1800. They do have a microwave link at this site but not sure if the microwave is feeding this site or the other way around. Hopefully fibre fed.

I vaguely recall almost everyone in the area being on One NZ for mobile as the other services were marginal to non-existent for a long time. Looking at the RRF licenses, 2degrees built their tower around two years ago and Spark a further two years before that, whereas One NZ built theirs nine years ago.
