I've had the update for over a day now and no more freezing. WAF has increased substantially!

They should give customers a credit for the two months where many/most people had issues (not fit for purpose...)

A few more improvements (reverse sort in planner, faster menu responses, ...) and it will be a nice overall device.

D.

Well I had the update and still have the odd freeze up but does seem more stable.

Got my first bill today charged for install and other sundries I was supposed to get for free. All sorted though and I also asked for a credit due to the box not working as advertised during November, looks like I will get $50 odd for thats so well done Telstra for coming to the party.

Its worth asking for a credit if you have had issues during the last month or so.

Hmmm, no more freezing or stuttering but has anyone else seen an upsurge in failed recordings?  We have a number of recordings set that have mysteriously started failing - 'failed for an unknown reason'.  It's not as if there were other conflicting recordings at thee same time.  Seems a bit inconsistent, for example 'Lets Get inventing' TVNZ6 recorded fine at 6:30pm but failed at 8:30 (don't ask, my kids like it for some reason).

I thought it might be an issue with the update that require one to cancel and then re-set the recordings but 'Being Human' on Prime still failed last night despite being deleted and recreated as a series link.

Perplexing.  If anyone else is seeing something similar would be keen to hear.

Well based on the lack of corroboration maybe I'm the only seeing this but I think that the upgrade (although great at fixing the stuttering and other issues) has introduced a new issue.

I was a bit suspicious that TCL went out of their way to mention Padding causing failed recordings in their letter when it had not appeared to be much of an issue. I have a padding of 4 minutes set. Since the update I am consistently seeing the second recording fail when it is for the following programme on the same channel. This is despite there being three tuners and no other records set. That might not be clear - here's the scenario.

For example, I now find that if you set a programme on Playhouse Disney to record and then also set the following programme to record the second one will consistently fail.

They obviously overlap in recording time by 8 minutes (4 minutes padding on each end) but they should be fine as there are 3 tuners. I suspect there is a new bug, in that the T-box is not using the other available tuners at times and is failing overlapping recordings on the same channel. It was fine on the old version.

I have managed to do this consistently three times. Best you look out for it.

Cheers

Got the upgrade. Still the freezing issue. Still failed recordings. Haven't been able to use my box in ages. Really unhappy. Do like seeing the date of the recording in the planner - doesn't help most of my recordings get missed as my box is frozen or that I can't watch the recorded ones as the box doesn't start up.

Not looking forward to ringing TCL again and staying on hold for 20+ minutes.

Strangely... I have seen great improvement in both our T-Boxes, though the previous issues weren't really bothering us too much - it was annoying first couple of weeks be we tolerated and got used to it. Now it's smoother and no issue whatsoever.

Mine is much better. I had one freeze that required a reboot yeasterday when I fast forwarded too soon after starting a recording and it froze and eventually went black with no response to the remote. I have however noticed the time it takes to do things like change menu's or delete things varies a lot with 20 or 30 second delays from time to time since the update.

I'm having the same issues, i have the recording buffer set to 3 minutes because the timing on some programs is shocking. So i sometimes fast forward as soon as it starts playing but then the screen freezes and blacks out and the only way to sort it out is to pull the plug.
Another thing is if the t.v has been off all day and i turn it on the remote just wont respond for a good 20 to 30 seconds.
The menus response times are shocking also.
The boss is getting so angry especially coming from a house where she used to have mysky and how reliable that is...it is pretty good actually

I have had the updates go through and knew that telstra has most likely thought they have sorted all the issues but they really haven't. So today i decided to ring them, explained the issues and the call taker put me on hold for 5mins then came back saying he has logged a job and will send a tech out sometime this week. I can't really understand how that will help as all they is contract the work out and they just play with cables and say cool see ya later.

Its been over a month since i got the tbox and really think i shouldn't have to pay for any of it.

Definately let me know if they somehow fix it but like you said they will more than likely just check the levels and leave. I went from series 1 TiVo to T-Box and even having multiple tuners and HD video is only just enough to keep me with it. I don't really want a satellite dish on my house and there is no way I am loosing the broadband but mysky is very tempting.

I had the freezing issues pre the recent upgrade but post upgrade I have had no freezing or pixelation.  In fact currently I am happy with the T-Box.  It needs a few small improvements like being able to set the buffer at the start of a recording to a different value to the buffer at the end, and the ability to skip set time periods to jump the adverts but other than that as a product it seems to be stable.
