46ms is "normal normal", nothing wrong at all. A few years ago I had interleaving briefly turned off and my ping dropped to about 20ms, later had line issues so we enabled interleaving again (which did not fix the issue, was a port fault). Only last week I saw mine go drastically down (to 10ms) and it happened the same time our cabinet got upgraded with a fibre feed. And I think the cabinet got changed to a Whisper, but I don't care enough to look. A few months ago I walked past there and it was very noisy, like a power station almost!

Niel: 46ms is "normal normal",

46ms is what I'm getting during the day. that is fine.
It's the bouncing around between 50 & 110ms during the evening as per sample graph that wasn't happening prior to the Xnet outage on 12/7/11.

Im also having problems with ping in the evening pretty much doubling what it has usually been. (and ive been on xnet a few years now)

The problem has only started in the last week. I rang them up and they told me there is nothing wrong and they cant do anything about it

Yeah im getting terribly annoyed. Can't game after 3pm until around midnight.

Easily 80+ ping to NZ servers where i normally get 25-30 ping.

If this isn't sorted soon ill be looking to change i guess.

Hi. Still the same here. maximum 109ms, 86ms average over last 10 minutes 21:30 saturday 24/7.

Cameron from Xnet PMed me on 22nd He said
"Still working with the Operations team re latency, they believe some dimensioning may have been done by Telecom Wholesale.  I'm however still pushing the issue as it appeared to happen at the exact time our network was changed."

He said he will post here when they know something.

Any update Cameron?

It's a server that I was asked to use for testing to a couple of years ago. Have used the same one since. I think it's one of xnets core servers or gateways? northnet.net.nz Cameron? Maverick?

I am however seeing this latency to all hops beyond my router, so It may well be Telecom Wholesale. The first night I had this problem it was only on third hop & beyond, so looked like Xnet.

Most evenings it's coming right about now. Weekends tend to be different.
I am plotting 5 second pings. In the evenings I am currently seeing 1 or 2 no replies in a 15 minute period (Packet loss)

My normal pings are 46-50ms. I have interleaving turned on.

Hi LiQuidAce. Like me, it's all hops beyond your router. This may be Telecom doing Traffic management and not Xnet.

There was mention on geekzone (can't find the post now) that Telecom Wholesale had given ISPs notice that they were planning on implementing "Dimensioning" on their ethernet backhaul (UBA). like they do on the old ATM backhaul (UBS). I believe it's been open pipes on the Next Generation Network cabinets and ADSL2+ exchange upgrades up to now. If they have implemented this it may explain why evening latencies have increased? 15 minute average of 45kbps per connected customer + allowance for 3 months growth & latency less than 1000ms is all Wholesale have to provide I believe.

Regards Allen

mmmm

I'm still on ADSL1. They've delayed the upgrade of my exchange atleast 50 times over the passed 3 years. I gave up hope a long time ago.
