I have had nothing from Vodafone as of yet as to any increase in my plan price, however I did only begin a new contract with them in November last year...?

Why does this cover LLU connections, it is the ISPs own gear?

Anyway it is dishonest hiding behind the CC as an excuse, most of the increases are not plans/services affected.

If they need to increase because of other reasons then just come out and say it.

UCLL still costs all ISPs a good amount to rent the copper circuit; I don't recall what the price is these days, but it used to be about $20/month. By comparison a dslam port, once installed, is about $1.50/month in sunk costs.

On net connections though don't have the same recurring cost; as many people are seeing with Ufb, it's costing between $2000-3000 to hook up a premises for the first time, but once it's in, it's in. There is a little cost for line maintenance and ongoing network investment in core systems, but that's about it.

The cable network has been around for about 20 years, and many houses in welly kapiti and chch were hooked up at some point, so re activation costs are nowhere near the cost of a brand new drop.

So nominal costs to manage and maintain and statements from vf that they have massively invested in cable somewhere.

Agree though, they should have just manned up and said prices are going up, which I'm sure they will with next years regular-as-clockwork price rise which is > CPI rate. I find it amusing to think that Vodafone has become the new Telecom....

And to think, I used to have cable a long time ago and was really pleased to do so. Today, I find VDSL better.

100 down 10 up cable is pretty nice here.

So I just got my bill. As mentioned earlier, I am on the Unlimited Ultra Fast Cable 130 plan (with home phone), which was not on any of the lists of plans with increases. There was no mention of an increase on the bill (or the email that it came attached to) so I guess they feel they are making enough money from those of us who wanted to keep 130Mbit and didn't change down to the cheaper plans at 100Mbit. So that's nice.

What this has meant for me is that I really need to look at all the things that I have going to ISP email addresses and start getting them going to one or other email accounts so that if/when I decide to dump cable it will be relatively smooth and painless. There are probably better things I could do with the ~$130/month that I am currently giving to Vodafone just because I like downloading at 16MB/sec :)

hairy1: Yeah but swearing and not correctly labeling companies is against the fug.

.. that's considered swearing these days? I was also referring to the Telecom of old. But whatever. Vodafone's actions deserve to be slammed, and slammed hard. They're consistently doing things that hurt their customers, and weaselling their way around actually admitting it by making up dumb "excuses".

I'm under contract and have changed plans twice from naked 80GB ADSL to UFB 80GB then to UFB Unlimited. Not sure now when my contract ends and the $4 increase will apply. Can one find out when a contract ends on the Vodafone website without having to phone Vodafone and wait for ages? It would be helpful if Vodafone showed the contract end date on their monthly invoice.

I am pleased that the $4 increase will not apply till one is out of contract. If you sign up for a 12 month contract the price should not change during that time. Otherwise they could double the price and say you have to pay this as you are under contract.

I think this is the kicker, from http://www.vodafone.co.nz/pricechanges/
The costs of delivering both broadband and home phone services to New Zealanders has increased for all providers which impacts the vast majority of consumer customers in New Zealand.

Those of us in the minority are (at some point) going to have to pay anyway. For fixed term customers who have not read that page, it also says:
However, existing customers that are currently on a fixed term will receive a $4 credit every month until the end of the fixed term period of their contract.

The bigger the Telco, the greater th:e arrogance, and Vodafone are the biggest.

Doesn't that conflict with an earlier post?

"In an email today

"Hello
We want to tell you about some important changes that we are making to the Vodafone broadband and home
phone plans. As you may have seen recently reported in the media, there have been changes in the industry to
the costs of delivering broadband and home phone services for all providers in New Zealand. These cost changes
affect the conditions that all providers operate under and unfortunately our prices will need to change to reflect
these new conditions.
From 1 February 2015, the monthly fee for your plan will increase by $4 per month. However, because you are
only part way through your contract term, we will apply a monthly credit of $4 to your account until the end of
your current contract term, so you will not have an extra charge during that time.""

Got similar letter, but after a few email exchanges with VF I've been told it doesn't effect me, making sure that I'll keep this email as my evidence.

Damm sure when the cost of delivering broadband goes down they won't adjust down their prices.

Personally I'm finding it very difficult to justify staying with VF, they have a very bad attitude towards their existing customers, all they seem to want to do is attract new customers, which is not a bad idea, but looking after the existing customers seems more like something they do when they really don't want to do it.

I'd prefer not to support any ex-TCL products on principle alone.
