OK, a couple of questions....(I have read the full thread and not found an satisfactory answer)

1) Why can't we have requested lower speeds?
2) Can we have naked DSL without all the bells and whistles such as the VoIP package?

My main question, or point it may be, is there are many who would much rather have a lesser product in order to save money....
I'm not a gamer, I dont need (right now) full speed upload.....so why would I want to pay for it?
I would much rather have a naked version of the plan River, so to save another $16.....
And as I use my cellphone extensively with bestmates, I dont want a home phone...so I would like a naked DSL plan can has no VoIP product bundled in, so to save me more money there...

What I, and I'm sure many others, would like to see.....

Naked DSL with many choices:
1) FS/FS (with no extras like VoIP)
2) FS/128kbps (with no extras like VoIP)
3) Packages (same as above but with VoIP)

Currently all that is offered is FS/FS bundled with VoIP......

The answer is no... not right now anyway. Reason is... is that there is still a line charge (~$40) that we all have to pay regardless of whether you stay on a POTS with ADSL or N-DSL. This is before you add ADSL to the line. Therefore to provide something marketable, the ISP's through in VOIP. I believe the reason for FS/FS is to achieve best results from your VOIP service.

I believe the reason why only FS/FS is because that is the only Naked Bitstream offering from Telecom Wholesale (or considered/enforced/etc. by the ComCom). You need minimal bandwidth for VOIP. Personally I am all for saving money and not taking bells and whistles, but at the end of the day saving $10 per month is nothing (the cost of one basic lunch!).

If you want to save, then the only alternative at this stage would be renting a phone line and getting 256k/128k ADSL on it. You will barely save anything, so you can just as well get Fusion for about the same price and have FS/FS.

The price of $80 included $10 worth of data which is 10GB. As far as I know Fusion will work the same as the existing XNet HSI packages where you set your own data cap but pay for only what you use. I do not know of any other ISP that does this, instead you have to buy blocks of data and loose what you don't use. So actually Fusion is $70 per month plus the data you use. Perhaps the news reporter did not understand the concept and confused people by saying it is $80 per month.

The reporter may also have had a look at Supra which has naked dsl plan for $69.95 for 10Gb + voip phone for $9.95 and that is 10c off $80.00. I wonder if that was the case of what he saw? As I dont think it would be slingshot as they have voip phone and 6Gb of data for $80.00

I think another very important fact that people don't seem to be picking up on yet, we are the only ones I believe that don't count your VOIP traffic off the Data Cap, so there is a big point of difference there apart from a better product suite, pretty much national coverage as well, (missing a couple of areas)

Yes totally agree Phil that Supra I mentioned has only got local calling in 3 areas and I dont know if Slingshot is any further ahead yet but when I changed over to VFX from them they didnt even have local calling here in New Plymouth and as I mentioned earlier VFX is certainly the far superior product. Also it makes a big difference the local traffic not coming off the data cap as I think I must have about 600 Mb of local traffic a month.

I do have a question how much data do voip calls use anyway?

and also something thats making me wonder is that if say i was downloading a file about 150mb and i was downloading at 300kbps it seems that the call on vfx is unaffected.

Does Voip use little data and uses not alot of download/upload speed?

Not quite sure how to put that in english.Hope someone can clarify it up and answer the question for me

Well, then you should advertise it more/better!

Could be a good idea for the xnet fusion webpage Phil to clarify that as a quick check of xnet site now it is only mentioned twice in the FAQs of the VFX page and once in the HSI broadband FAQs page. Something like the little red box that says on VFX page at the moment "Currently waived for Xnet Broadband Customers" You could have something like "Your VFX calls are not counted as accountable traffic if you have your broadband with us" or something along those lines. Other than that Niel I know Phil does get a plug in on nearly every thread that talks about VFX.

What's going to happen with naked DSL and ADSL2+?
I'm still on ADSL1, if naked DSL comes out before my exchange is upgraded, will my naked DSL be upgraded to naked ADSL2+ when my exchange is done?
Also, any dates to look forward to yet?

As far I know, at the moment there is no such thing as naked ADSL2, if you want to get adsl2, you will have to get it like you get ADSL now.

This may change once orcon & ihug gets there act together & there unbundled exchanges go live.

Also, any dates to look forward to yet?

What dates? Dates for ADSL? Or when naked DSL comes out?

Well my understanding is that Telecom are replacing the ADSL1 ASAMS in exchanges with ADSL2+ ISAMS. (and upgrading backhaul at the same time)
And that when they enable the ADSL2+ profile on a customers line, no matter which ISP the customer is connected with, the customer will receive ADSL2+ speeds. (provided their modem supports it)

Now, I intend to sign up to Xnet Fusion as soon as it is available. I am also looking forward to Telecom upgrading my exchange to ADSL2+.
I was wondering what effect Telecom upgrading my exchange's equipment will have on Naked DSL.
Specifically, if I had Naked DSL up and running, and then Telecom were to upgrade my exchange, what effect would this have on my Naked DSL? Would I be stuck on ADSL1 speeds? Would my Naked DSL cease to function?
And also in the other order, What would happen if Telecom upgraded my exchange and put me on an ADSL2+ profile, and I then sign up for Xnet fusion, will my Naked DSL run at the same ADSL2+ speeds? Will I be able to get Xnet Fusion?

Important dates, as in when WxC intend to release Xnet Fusion.

I'm currently with Slingshot, but after reading around the subject for a while, have decided WorldXchange/Xnet are the way to go.

Now come on Xnet. Release the Naked plan to the public! I'm waiting!

It doesnt matter whether you have ADSL1 or ADSL2+ You will still have naked dsl. All naked dsl is, is the removal of the Telecom phone service from your line and just having dsl coming down your phone line and also whatever connection you have (ADSL1 or ADSL2+) will not affect whether you get xnet fusion or not. So long as your VFX phone device is able to connect to Xnets server you will still be able to have Xnet fusion.
