bigal_nz: I was a bit peeved that apparently the 20Gb plan is $90 (minus the $30 rebate) so its $60, BUT the guy told me you need to add a Talk plan like Talk1 etc, which is another $15 so its really $75. Anyone confirm this is correct???? If so sounds like false advertising to me.

Please see my clarification about this.

Did the CSR tell you anything else other than the Free Broadband offer? You must be given ALL choices (whether it's an offer or not) and you should be able to confirm or question their offer.

Where can I get a Huawei modem from? VF's staff admit they work best (because they use Huawei DSLAM) but the VF website says that they are giving away Dlink modems!!!

ihug and Vodafone have been giving D-Link modems for a long time, but they should learn from Telecom and start to source a different brand.

Huawei ADSL modems? Never heard that Vodafone recommends a product that basically doesn't exist on the New Zealand market.

Didn't know this. Interesting they decided to go for Alcatel modems. But i guess the islams are alcatel (i think) so that helps.

I signed up for the Red Network about a week ago and was told it would take around 3 weeks to get connected. I was surprised to hear when I called them that it would be installed today. All done, I am no longer a Telecom customer and all is working well.

I think I'm a long way from the exchange because my sync speeds on Xtra were: max 2500kbs down, 180kbs up
The results on the Red Network are: 2948kbs down, 976kbs up.

I am getting close to full sync speed when testing upload/download performance using speedtest.net

I was connected to the Red network today.

My sync rate went up straight away:

XNET (telecom)

6900 download 890 upload

VODAFONE

9688 download 1237 upload

ACTUAL SPEED TEST:

XNET - 5800kbps
Vodafone - 9100kbps

Looking at the Vodafone website the Massey exchange has now be switched over to the Red Network.

1024 Scenic Drive North, Swanson, Waitakere City

Yes - your area is in one of Vodafone's Red Zones.

Our new Red services are available at your address now.
For more details or to sign up to Vodafone Red services simply close this window and click on the links in the Red network.

My question is this, I am currently on the Broadband 2 plan with Home Phone and Talk 2 plans. I'm signed in to a 12 month contract that ends on the 28th August 2008. Does anyone know if my plan will be switched to the Red Network or do I have to sign up to one of the new Red Plans?

When I phoned to discuss swapping over to Ideal Pack + Talk2 I was told it was going to cost me $99 to terminate my contract and swap plans. When I said I didn't want to cancel my contract I just wanted to change plans so I could get onto the Red Network I was told it would still cost $99. Vodafone would still be providing me with exactly the same service so I don't see why it should be deemed to be a cancellation of my existing contract. I'm even happy to pay the existing amount my services cost and forgo the $1.75 saving I'd make by being on the Ideal Pack till the end of my contract if it meant I was able to make use of the Red Network.

I've emailed Vodafone Help with this same question but so far it has been 7 days and I have not had any response.

Well I got on the Red Network this morning.

I am about 8-900m from the exchange in East Auckland.

I am getting:

Synch Speeds
Download Upload
14777 1134

Real World Speeds
Speedtest.Net
13655 812

Pinsg average about40-50ms.

This is with the standard Dlink 502T and Dlink filters.

Will try to tweak things a bit more.

Dissapointly the microsoft website only gave me a speed of 150K/s downloading IE7, and I have noticed that speedtest.net speeds vary wildy, sometimes its near synch speed, sometimes its down around 6-8Mb/s.....

Of course the speed test at the ihug website is off the scale!

Also I found a bit disapointing was that youtube was still a little bit stop/start????

I guess YMMV?

Now I get 20Mb/s.

Its odd these speeds are higher than my synch speeds.

My speeds are better now (I didnt have the filter in before when I was getting 13 etc (hehe I couldnt figure out why I was getting all the disconnects)

Just a shame that they want to sting me $20 for a static IP. Might have to use dyndns or noip-org.

Thats a little high IMO, are they still all silly about not removing interleaving even on their own gear like they are on wholesaled connections?

Well, turning interleaving off benefits only relatively small percentage of customers. Average user is more after stability then low ping times which means that interleaving is here to stay, especialy since quality of some of the phone lines (and in-house wiring) is simply shocking. I believe you can ask to have it off, but then your line becomes far more suceptible to interference and occasional drops.
