Recently I've asked Phil about ADSL1 v.s. ADSL2+.  His answer was that the connection to my exchange is ADSL2+ but the exchange itself is running ADSL1 profiles (or simething like that).  As far as I know Telecom is going to "turn on" ADSL2+ sometime in 2008, which I think means they will simplty simulatenously enable ADSL2+ profiles/speeds to their exchanges.

You still get advantage connecting with ADSL2+ profile to your exchange, as it does things like dynamic power adjustment (use just enough power to maintain the connection, which reduces crosstalk).

1)will xNet be offering NDSL on a line that was previously connected but disconnected now.
Or will the line HAVE to be connected in order to get NDSL on it ?
Aussie does it with both, it's just a lot harder to do it on a prevoiusly connected line but can be done.

2) With number porting what is the expected activation time for VoIP (Aussie is currantly up to 5 days after activation of NDSL on a good day)

I have xNet with VFX, the VFX was awesome when it was first connected, but then I moved it to my other phone line and it turned to crap, so I think it may be the line causing the crappy VFX quality, cos it's really hard to hear people and it some times goes dead during a conversation.
This has only happened since changing lines :(

If you send me some details of a recent bad call , I can have it checked out as well as checking your DSL connection, what VFX device are you using btw ?

WxC was hoping to launch Xnet Fusion prior to Xmas. We now have our heads around the recent Commerce Commission Final Bitstream Determinationon and understand the costs associated with churning, connections, early disconnections and are busily updating the web site in preparation for launch.

There have, however been some issues with the systems on the Telecom provisioning side and with everyone running short handed through the holiday period, we have decided to wait until the 7rd of Januray to start taking orders from the general public. The web page will go live that morning.

There will be instances of delays and the like when some customers order NDSL simply because much of the copper number designators into your homes and business are not well documented and there is sometimes a bit of hunting for the line that goes on.

When we do launch it, we want to minimize any problems and ensure that the automated provisioning processes are solid and that when they do let us down, we are able to achieve a quick and positive result for the subscriber.

So- 7 January is the date. I’ll warn the team to come back fresh and ready to make 2008 the year that New Zealand got Naked.

Happy Holidays to you all from WorldxChange and Xnet

Thankyou for that Cecil. Your staff might need another holiday if 5000 odd VFX customers like myself all converge onto your CSRs at once. There are a lot of us that are certainly quite anxious to get it.Laughing Merry Christmas and happy new year to you and your staff too

Regards Lance

There are 3 phone jacks at my friend place and he is using xnet with vfx at the moment. He has bought a PAP2t device with 1 phone hooked up to vfx.

Its quite convienent having a telecom phone line because there are 3 phone jacks around the house but for vfx you are stuck with 1 phone in the middle of the house as it requires the broadband modem and the pap2t device

So with naked dsl... would the other 2 phone jacks of the house become useless?

Anyway i can get vfx to work with the other 2 phone jacks in the house?

You can buy like a double/tripple RJ11 phone adaptor to plug into the linksys PAPT2, then you can connect 2/3 handsets to the linksys using the same port as you wouold with a phone jack on the wall.
But the VFX needs to be running through the linksys hardware as far as I know, pitty it's only the linksys that can be used, because the Belkin routers are pretty good for sound quality as well, but then it's trying to get the SIP server information from xNet, which I've tried but they tell me it's not public information as the VFX is set up from their end using your linksys serial number.
I'm not knocking xNet cos their pretty good, but they are they only ISP I know of that dosent let their customers know the SIP settings for VoIP to be able to set it up on another VoIP enabled Router/Modem, hence were srtuck with using the linksys hardware :(
maybe they have a reason for this I don't know.

Agreed.....  Fingers crossed my date for naked dsl isn't pushed back further.  Thanks again maverick!

Agreed....  Is this a widespread problem in New Zealand?  It certainly was for mine, and if it is, it must be a pain both for consumers and sales/tech staff!

Make that 4999, I'm away that week, so I'll have to give Xnet a one week reprieve before I sign up :( Looking forward to the next generation though!

Weird, they let me sign up for Xnet Fusion a few days ago. Said I'll have it connected 6-13 days after the 3rd of January (only because I requested they hold out on putting the job through until then).

Cool

Ninabear: If you have a central splitter, then you can simply bypass it which will take your phone line streight to your ADSL jack and isolate the phone jacks from the Telecom network.  Then you connect a lead from the VFX port into any phone jack which will distribute it to all the other phone jack in your home (which is now isolated from the Telecom network).  If you do not have a central splitter, then you can do the same but have to open your phone jack points and swap wires so you use a different pair of wires isolated from the Telecom network (newer homes will have spare wires, older homes will not if it has the origianl 3-wire system).  In my case all I did was to get a cordless phone with 3 handsets (go for any DECT system, not 2.4GHz).

I do not agree that VFX the only guys are that do not give you access to the SIP settings.  When I first looked at VFX I was discouraged primarily due to Vonage (or something like that) where they not just lock down both ports of your device, but also refuses to ever unlock your device.  VFX is different in that they not only will unlock your device when you leave, they also leaves the second port unlocked so you can try other SIP services and discover for yourself how much better their service is.  I am confident that there is good reason for sticking with Linksys, and we do not know what future plans there are for VFX which is perhaps not supported on the other brands.

As for the 7th, I am sure lots of people will be trying to hack into the new web pages beforehand.  Hope the security is good (or rather weak security so that even I can hack into it!).

Problem is they want a phone in their bedroom while the vfx is in the lounge....

I guess you could use a cordless phone but if only the base for the phone can be say used in the existing phone line in their room.

Imagine you have a two storey house and the vfx linksys device is downstairs and your room was up stairs.I suppose if you hear the phone ring in the morning you will need to run downstairs probably trip over and fall down a few steps on the stairs as you haven't fully wake up yet.lol

I wonder if there is a wireless landline phone where it can communicate with a wireless device thats plugs into the the back of the pap2t and the base for the cordless phone can be situated in any place around the house

I think its a bit inconveient to have a vfx line with only 1 phone being plugged in.Even with the adaptor you suggested its a bit of a hassle lining up 3 phones next to the vfx as well as the modem next to it..

A bit ... unrealistic???
