I for one am impressed with the new plans and am currently working out how I can pay the upfront (wonder if HP is available).  Much better effort Vodafone!

Finance is about 24.9% last time I financed a phone.

What makes everyone so sure telecom will get the iphone?:

lugh: Hmm, a resounding silence.  Is everyone stunned or has there been a stampede down to the nearest shop? Wink

If Paul's around... will there be increased stock at the shops to handle any expected rise in sales ?

The stock is arriving regularly so shouldn't be a problem. I believe we're out in the warehouse today but there's still some in store and we'll get more shortly (today or tomorrow).

Cheers

Most users aren't anywhere near that level of traffic usage... I've just looked at an iPhone here and there was half a gig of usage for the month...

most of the traffic is on wi-fi...

cheers

It's a sick joke, compare the optus plan's , especially the 2 year $50 a month plan from Optus.

Roll on Telecom GSM I say, if they don't screw up the launch there'll be a stampede.

All I want is minutes/txt's that roll over if I don't use them & optus pricing + 15% for an iPhone.

Oh last thing, 80c txt from USA to NZ when roaming is pathetic, though $1 roughly roaming calls back to NZ are ok, 50c would be better though.

I use about 100 MB a month for e-mail and light browsing on a Pocket PC - no You Tube, no background upgdating applications, no RSS feeds and no Google Maps. I guess 250 MB could be ok for someone just getting a smartphone for the first time. But I wouldn't touch the iPhone with less than 500 GB to start the month...

These are good plan in term of current offers across the board (within VF & Telecom). we shouldn't expect a big deal from hardware subsidy overnight which not yet happens in NZ.

I don't think Telecom entering GSM marketplace with lower price tag due to the fact they have a huge overhead for setting up infrastucture. Give it a few years, you might see the different pictures. End of this year ? No way.

NZ Herald article here

Interesting point to mention:

Changing plans from other iPhone contracts is possible, but customers will have to pay Vodafone extra for the handset. Moving from the 80GB plan to either iPhone 40 or 60 will cost an extra $100.

I think 80GB means $80 ;)

500GB ?! ;)

All in all - good move by VFNZ I reckon. If it was a 12 month plan, I'd be on to it like a shot. But as it stands, I'll still be sitting outside any plan for now. Unless there was a cancellation fee detailed for resigning a contract between 6-12 months (might be working overseas for a few months).

Those new plans are definitely a step in the right direction.

As an aside, what are the overage costs for txts/talking/internet. I assume it's 20 cents per text and $1 per MB but what about talk?

TIA

--Edit--

Found that info, it all depends on the plan you are on. On the $40 plan it's 89 cents for talking and 25 cents per MB. On the $60 plan it's 79 cents for talking and 25 cents per MB.

Not trying to criticise, but the $40 plan is pretty spartan on the texting and talk front, I guess that is the cheapest VF are willing to do.

What exactly would you expect to do with 500GB of data a month? I don't know of anyone who'd get through that in a month. I'm assuming you meant 500MB?

Some improvement - but data still needs to be unlimited like US/UK etc.

Personally, I would like the bones of the $80 plan but with zero included texts a month not 600 and 1Gb of data instead. I don't think grown-ups use texting very much (especially on a phone with proper email).

The subsidised price on an iPhone $60 has increased from $749.00 to $799.00 since it was first released today.

You win Vodafone. I'm taking my company accounts elsewhere.

"grown-ups" - haha, I love it!

You'd be surprised. I think you'll find texting is a lot more widely spread in the "grown-up" generations than you realise. Many of my clients are in constant text contact with me and many business deals are often both discussed and agreed upon via text (in certain circumstances). Not to mention the convenience of being able to surreptitiously text out critical work requests while in meeting situations - there are many uses for texting and many in the 30's/40's/50's/60's etc age groups are using it.

I don't think we're really in an age where technology up-take is restricted to the gen X/Y's amongst us.

I'm on the $80 plan, have been since day one and find it is perfect for my needs. I'm saving money compared to my last plan with an i-mate. The quota's for each of the components appear to be just right for me

Well, maybe you are right. I don't know whether that would be the case if everyone could send email - and I won't go into how rude it would be to have your mobile on in a meeting...!! I actually dismissed a firm of lawyers from business worth nearly $750,000 a year in the UK because three of the partners took me to lunch and spent most of it on the phone talking to other clients, I am quite demanding as a client though!

Oh god no. Now I wish that I didn't go and pay 1129 for the phone. I'm not really going to use that much data so the $40 is fine for me. Any chance Vodafone will be nice enough to give me some money back if I move onto one of the new plans right now? Seeing as the old ones were a cheat, which was really what forced me to have it on prepay.

Incorrect speling should be punnished!!!
