Damn I missed that - at least sub got a screencap! :-)

The video is fully encrypted using a different access control system than the exisiting MPEG2 stuff so can't be viewed with a regular smart card.

I'm sure I looked at the 'when' page earlier today and it still said demo machines would be in stores on the 18th (tomorrow), but it doesnt seem to say that any more. Now says end of the month. http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/sub-sites/homemedia/when.htm

The landing page (http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/sub-sites/homemedia/index.htm) has not changed.  This has been the same for a while now.  Hopefully the news will be all go, but as the song says, "tomorrow is just an excuse away"

Cheers
Rob

That info has not changed from when I looked at it a couple of days ago.  Indeed fairly certain it was the same several weeks ago.  Note that it states "... available for installation at the end of March 2010".  Lefthand side still states "... available to view from mid March".

As Robz notes the other page still says "19th of March".

No changes yet that I can see.

At least we now know that the devices really do exist, and the HD channels are being broadcast. Not sure if they'll display the device tomorrow, but it should be soon.

"We will be having pre-launch demonstrations 19th March and will begin taking orders approximately one week later."

Today's the 19th March and....   the web site has been updated to;

"We will be having pre-launch demonstrations soon."

Still we wait and hope that the PVR will be here SOON

More concerning, the RH of the other page has changed from

"... available for installation at the end of March 2010"

to

"We will be taking orders, early in the new year. Those who have registered..."

http://www.telstraclear.co.nz/sub-sites/homemedia/when.htm

So, since 4pm yesterday (18 March), "March 2010" has has been up dated to "early in the new year".

Which "new year"?  As of yesterday, could only mean 2011?

Based on past efforts, I hope that is not prophetic.

I rang the TCL retail store to check and the guy could only give me the info that was on the website. I feel sorry for them as they are obviously being kept in the dark. But the devices are definitely in Wellington so it shouldn't be long until they are in the store.

I have not seen the box in the flesh, but as I understand it you still require a seperate EPG surfboard modem :(

Yeah, that's a pain. I was hoping the new box would allow me to get rid of one of the modems.

I also just rescanned and the SDT has gone so I am only scanning in the ole 135 channels now.

It also appears that as sbiddle said it won't be irdeto using the existing ca. Which seems madness to me to run two ca's for hd vs sd. But I am sure there is a good reason why. But it will also mean that those of us who choose not to use the tcl box will be SOL when going for the hd ticket if we want that.

My understanding was a DOSCIS3 modem for the box was not possible, it would be pointless deploying a STB with a DOCSIS2 modem in it that's unable to take advantage of the DOCSIS3 features when it becomes available.

It's also worth remembering that this product isn't necessarily just for cable connections, it could just as easily be deployed over a TCL VDSL connection and all content could be streamed to it. I have no idea if TCL have any plans to do this, I'm merely just pointing out that it's entirely possible.

What a good idea - I'll recommend it to the boys when they're down next week... especially since TCL VDSL2 is average 20-40mbps...!

Yeah, I think you're right on that.

Hummm, never heard of that one.  Could be a Griffin CA.
