Well moving to Aus in 3 weeks and yes a free iPhone on far cheaper / better plan at Optus. Have been a VF cust for 5 yrs and been on a blackberry plan avg 230 pm. Think VF absolutely screwed us and still are with iphone plans and upfront costs. I won't be sorry to stop paying them money and just shows what competition in Aus results in. I do pity Paul Brislin trying to explain how cost effective and attractive these plans are. Good luck NZ VF iphone customers, you just have to grin and bear it!!
Just been chekcing the new iPhone plans and notice that the $250 plan has disappeared meaning that it is no longer possible to buy the iPhone in NZ at the Steve Jobs quoted price of $199.

I think you need to go back and listen to Steve's speech again.
The $250 plan has not vanished - it is no longer exclusively an iPhone only plan so it's not on the iPhone only plan page. You can still get it, but now you can get it on any device. We were inundated with customers (particularly business customers) wanting access to this plan on other devices, so that's what we've done.
You can still get it on the iPhone but the iPhone plan page is for iPhone exclusive plans so it's not there.
Ask for it in store though.

Exactly my point. Why would VF be happy to sell me an iPhone on 4 types of plan online but burn any claim to being a green company by forcing me to drive 300km if I want to get the same phone on a different plan?
There is a serious lack of logic in that position!
100 texts a month? 250mb data? 20 minutes talk time?

I dont mean to be picky but really all it would be (if you had one of that plan) is a fasion statement
Personally, I think the iphone plans are restrictive (regardless of the price) [assuming they still haven't added all the services you can get on your old 'You Choose' plans]
The text bundles are awful. I mean why cant you choose to have 2000 on-net texts, or 600 any network texts [maybe (if you had to) pay for for it].
Am I missing something or is there actually logic behind vodafones [insert own word/s here] move with ANY of their iPhone plans.
Some say they are aimed at business. If thats the case, what's 250 minutes a month gonna' do? NOTHING.
I have an account with Vodafone, and I easily use 200 minutes a month. and could easily keep going. If you do the math, 200/30=6.6 minutes a day.

As many posters before me have said, These plans are just for people with too much money and want a toy. and TOY only. They must be expecting people to just use the iPod or something. Because there isnt much you could do with 1gb of data a month.
I struggle to keep under 60gb at home. and 3/4 of that is my own data. Youtube, etc. 1 gb would get me about 1 week touch and go. 2 weeks MAX, maybe.
I use several hundred minutes per month, but mostly through Vodafone family, and bestmates... the $40 offering is fine as I very rarely use more than 20 minutes per month to other numbers.
Hence why I am very keen to hear if vodafone family is now compatible with the iphone plans....... ........ ...... patiently waiting.....

You and me both, $40 plus family would do me nicely and I would be in there now if that was to work :)
250Mb is not huge but the reality is that Im on wireless at home and work so its unlikely I will use it. Sure it wont be using the phone to its full potential but its enough for what I would want to use it for.
250 mb data should be enough for me, wifi at home, friend who bought iphone on $80 plan, has used email, youtube etc and only used around 60mb in 2 weeks. Apparently the data is compressed over the vodafone network, so 250mb probably goes quiet a long way...

What I want to know is: Can I sign up for the $40 per month plan when I get it back and get a refund for the difference in price between buying it outright and the $849 price on the $40 per month plan? I won't sign up for a plan unless I receive a subsidy.

I'm guessing if you are 300kms away from the nearest Vodafone store...then you probably live in the middle of no-where, which means the iPhone 3G is most likely not the best device for you...it really does work best with 3G coverage. Perhaps you should wait for 900MHz in your area and get a device that is compatible with that (iPhone is not)
