r0bbie:

gdub: plugging straight into the the chorus fibre box........wifi dropped from 400mbps to under 1, though deco app still stating that the system is receiving 900mbps.

Any ideas as to why this may happen & how to fix?

Have you any devices under High Priority (under QOS)?

I was thinking this also.

Wasn't there a post further up where someone queried the impact of enabling QOS on other device performance?

Thanks, yes was using High Priority via QOS....took everything out of that and rebooted, still same issue.

Not a biggie, will just leave it running via the UltraHub - would have been good to unplug that device though as not using for WiFi, effectively just a pass through device now.

That's exactly what I've done.  Removed the ultrahub (gladly I might add) and gone direct fibre ONT output to X20 device.

Re-signed my contact on Friday, got the welcome email this Monday. Still can't redeem the super wifi deal - no eligible broadband services.

How soon were you guys able to redeem ?

I think it was a couple of days.

To be eligible you need to re-sign for 12 months and not 24.

Hi Guys

I just redemmed this offer and am waiting for deliver of my units and have a question.

I notice that the unit has two ethernet ports on the back.

Can I connect the mesh unit direct to the ONT and then connect the Vodafone Hub to it?

Basically I have items already plugged into all the ethernet ports on the Vodafone Hub and want the least disruptive way of integrating the units into the network.

Also my grandmother needs the landline which means the Hub needs to be connected somewhere?

Thanks

The Ultra Hub will need to be the one connected to the ONT. It cant sit behind a Deco.

You connect the Deco unit to one of the lan ports on the Ultra Hub. The ethernet cable you take out of the Ultra hub to free space for the deco unit can be placed into the second port of the deco unit instead.

Thanks -that's so simple I don't know why I didn't think of it.

The reduced number of wired ports on the deco units was the only downside for me, but adding a cheap switch solved any issues around that.

The parental controls are excellent and seem to be bundled in somehow with the vodafone offering, - look to be a paid option otherwise perhaps.

Coverage has been excellent and the app controlling it all is mostly pretty good.

So what is the range like? The ONT is at one end of the house in the garage and I have been running a Powerline connection to get to the other end of the house.

I'm hoping these could replace it but it is the length of the house plus a second storey to get it where I need it.

Also in one of the rooms I literally have to stick the wi-fi antenna out the window or door in order to get a signal -something about the wall there.

Hi Team

I received my Duco mesh units yesterday and tested them, they work well. Just trying to figure out the best combination at the moment. I have read the previous posts but still not clear on what is going to give me the best speeds and coverage. My layout is as follows:

Small two story split level townhouse with Chorus box located in ground floor laundry within a wall box - chorus box feeds network to two ethernet ports in lounge, one of which was connected to an asus router which is connected to my TV, Xbox and Vodafone TV.

I have changed that lounge connection to plug into one of the Duco units, and plugged a network cable from the duco unit back into the asus router - effectively making the asus router a switch for ethernet connectivity to the TV, Xbox and Vodafone TV.

I have turned off the wifi on the asus router and am solely using the one Duco unit for wifi. Can confirm that the speeds are much better now and coverage seems to be very good both downstairs and upstairs.

Just wondering if anyone has a similar set up, and if there is any benefit in plugging the Docu unit straight into the chorus box?

Thanks

Mehul

There is not really any performance difference either way - Deco to ONT or ASUS to ONT.   The Asus is a bit overkill to just be a switch, but it's all  perfectly fine the way you have it. You could save a tiny amount of power and some space by replacing the Asus with a small switch instead. But it seems its all working better than before, so it's a win.

The range is effectively doubled as there are two units rather than one. But placement is important for the 2 units to be able to connect to one another properly. There are a few options in your case

- The first unit connected to ONT and second unit halfway between ONT and far end of house. They should form an ok backhaul link between each other and cover 200sqm house fine.

- First unit connected to ONT with Powerline connected to it. Second unit connected to the other powerline. They *should* form an ethernet backhaul between them (they do with a normal ethernet cable). This would extend your wifi with faster speeds (assumung your powerline is a 1000 or 2000 speed one)

- Request a free 3rd Deco unit from Vodafone if 2 dont quite reach. THey do this as an option for the Wifi Guarantee.
