Cycling the power a few hours ago. Watched about 20 minutes of a recording then fast forwarded. It stopped a bit before the end and I could do nothing. Pressed stop a few times as it still indicated 32x fast-forward. Screen went blank. Waiting about 5 minutes. Now coming back up after I cycled the power. So one case at least where a weekly reboot didn't help.

I've had three people ask me about T-Boxes this week. I've recommended they wait or at best rent (never buy), at least till the update/s have been tested in the wild.

Also got comments from a couple of people who have had MySky (one who has moved to T-Box). They reckon MySkys are not trouble free.

Hi, I've been following this thread for awhile, and I thank one and all for their valuable input on T-Box. I was definitely going to get it a couple of months ago, as it looked pretty good, but the more I have read from this forum, has definitely convinced me to save my money for the moment and wait to see if they manage to fix it's current issues.

Thanks to all once again, and I shall keep an eye on this thread to see if there are any improvements in reliability.

T-Box like Mysky is only a rented item. You do not buy them even and up front lump sum is still rental, just rent in advance.

Remember what you see here is a very very small percentage of the total T-Boxes or Mysky or Freeview boxes that are in use. The problem with Forums you only see the problematic situations, users don't post "no issues" posts.

Uh I've seen a couple of posts on here (not many, admittedly) from yourself and someone else saying they're happy with the T-Box.

I'd like to know from those that are happy with their T-box how much they use it.

Ours hadn't frozen in a while but last night it did in the middle of a programme and we hadn't touched it (i.e. we hadn't changed channels or anything).  Waited and waited and it didn't unfreeze so we had to turn the whole thing off (and for those that think turning it off once per week prevents problems we had done it earlier in the week when we lost our EPG so I really don't think regularly turning it off does anything).  Of course I was recording another channel at the time so that ruined that recording and once we got the T-box back up and working it wouldn't let me record the end of the programme I had been recording.  These things always seem to happen in the evening when it's the worst time to ring Telstra.  I am just getting so fed up.  We will be going away soon and setting the T-Box to record some programmes and I'd better not come home to a whole pile of failed recordings!

I agree with that almost totally, but I don't accept that it means problems are not widespread just because many more people aren't posting to geekzone. TelstraClear isn't saying that these issues don't exist. In fact they acknowledge them and say they are working the address them through updates and improvements to the quality of the EPG. The small percentage of "owners" who do post to forums are also very likely to post good news when they find the problems resolved.

In the spirit of reporting all issues, on the 2nd July we had a programmed recording of Joan of Arcadia actually consists totally of infomercials. We are still finding random recording FAIL for no good reason (that we know). Tim?

You're doing the normal, weekly, restarts of your device?

Yes, usually because we have to (weekly reboot)! We are not power cycling the modem though, just the T-Box.

I've only once found a recording to contain a completely different programme. It was even a different channel. I really don't record too many unique programmes so maybe it's not surprising your issue hasn't affected me more.

The only thing I can suggest is deleting the reminder and recreating it. The reminders don't appear to currently pick up changes dynamically (e.g. if you change the padding it won't impact any existing reminders), so if you haven't tried that it's worth a go.

Had to smile as the "normal weekly reboot" comment :-) My perception is that the reboots may reduce the problem where the T-Box freezes when it's simply sitting there doing recordings and passing the time of day, but doesn't impact the issues that arise when it is in use by its human masters.

Ideally, *0* reboots should be required of this device (as other people have pointed out here), if it worked properly.
