So today out comes another VFTV Gen2 update. Is anyone testing this software?

Prior to today, pause recently stopped working on the VFTV  installation of the TVNZ on demand app but works fine with the app installed on the Sony TV. Still waiting on a response from VF to  that fault I logged on that.

Now today, obviously new software and pause and fast forward on playback are not working, TVNZ1 .

This wasn't a software update.  The features were already in the current release.

Certainly new software to me today. Snapshots when fast forwarding on replayed programmes and bugs. https://pages.vodafone.co.nz/index.php/email/emailWebview

Hi all,

-Visual Fast Forward. Keep an eye on how fast you’re going forward or back with Visual Fast forward. With the image blocks at the bottom of the screens broken up into 20 second snippets, you won’t miss out on the action while skipping to find your place.

-Accessibility Package. We want everyone to be able to enjoy VodafoneTV, so we’ve enabled subtitles on select channels as part of our accessibility package.

More information to follow.

Thanks so much for the subtitles, that was a much needed feature. And also the visual fast forward is very nicely implemented. Kudos to Vodafone TV!

Subtitles are great. That was my only negative with  streaming boxes. Are they able to be kept on all the time for each program, or do they have to be enabled each time for each program?

Once enabled, the subtitles will remain on.. even after a power cycle of the STB.

Liking the visual fast forward, but there seems to be an issue with watching something that is currently broadcasting but watching a little bit behind. I’ve found when trying to fast forward the ads sometimes the snapshots go black and you are prevented from going any further even if you are up to 15 minutes behind the live broadcast so have not yet caught up to live. A work around is going to the live broadcast and rewinding to the point you were at instead but then fast forwarding the next ads has the same issue. Don’t run into this when watching something that is not currently still going. Is there perhaps some lag for visual fast forward to become available while something is currently still screening? This is not me being dumb and catching up to live wondering why I can’t go any further, it’s happening while still 15 minutes behind live.

You have described in more detail the same sort of problem that I referred to earlier https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=40&topicid=254293&page_no=91#2440231

That along with not being able to pause playback in the VFTV TVNZ on demand app are really annoying glitches in often used features of VFTV.

I understand that tech support do monitor this forum, it would be good to get a response from them.

Well done Vodafone - with the new features I reckon this is now a top-class device.

There's just one tiny thing I'd like to suggest for a future upgrade: When I'm watching a programme in catch-up and I want to continue on to the following programme on the same channel, it would be great if the box could just stream on, rather than having to stop and manually select and start the next one.

Confirming this is also happening to me.

I have found that fast forwarding in 20 second intervals with the 20 second fast forward Key above the fast forward key, and 20 second rewind key above the fast rewind key works best to avoid this happening when watching a live show that has been restarted or rewound.

This is a known behaviour with visual RW/FF when watching something that is still playing live.  We hope to have a tweak coming, timing TBD.   Currently you cannot fast forward past the point at which you joined the live stream, even if you've restarted/rewound.  As has been suggested you can still use the 20sec skip buttons, or exit back to a new live point and then restart&FF/or rewind to where you were up to.

Note, the feedback from triallists was that it was definitely better to have it than not, and we don't know how long before it can be changed for the better.

Senecio: So this morning I turn on the box to a poor picture. Check the bitrate and it’s only 1680kbps. I left it for 30s and checked again and it’s the same. Change channel to TV3 and the picture is perfect. Bitrate was back to 6074kbps. Change back to TVNZ 1, the picture is fine and the bitrate is still 6074kbps. Urn the box off and back on again and I’m back to only 1680kbps again.

Looks like changing the channel will force it to jump to the highest available bitrate?

Any fix for this issue on the horizon?

I would rather not have the images, and be able to fast forward beyond your start point. This situation really negates any benefits of having a restart option.

Just bought a Vodafone TV, I have a few comments and questions:

1) Will Disney+ be added as an app to it any time soon? Mine seems to have just about every other streaming platform but that, it would be a nice addition.

2) Is the Lightbox offer that is being advertised a code inside the box? Or is it applied when you activate the device and log into Lightbox? I ask because I only activated my device yesterday, but I have had it on layby at The Warehouse since prior to this promotion, and wondered if I was still eligible, like whether it was an automatic thing when you activated the device. The phone support were horrendously useless at helping work that one out.

3) Is there a free trial of Sky? I wouldn't mind giving it a look, but don't want to commit to $24.95 a month yet without trying the service out (read: broke uni student) to see whether it's worth it.

4) Can the phone support PLEASE be informed of the currently running promotions, or what Lightbox is? I had to explain very slowly that i was talking about Lightbox, not "white box" as he said back to me.

5) I can dream, so would it be possible to allow users to install apps, or is it running some sort of custom OS that's not Android based? I wouldn't mind having something like Kodi to connect to my pre-existing media server to stream from, or having something like the chromecast functionality of Android TV devices so I don't need this AND a chromecast connected to my TV.

Overall, I do like the quality of the TV channels, even if it takes a sec to get out of pixel land (which the Freeview HD built into my TV doesn't need, but I'm aware Freeview isn't the selling point of this device) and the scheduled recording stuff seems handy, even if nothing I want to record can be recorded (only like 1 show on Duke appeared to be recordable, and it was American Pickers, no thanks)
