Hi there,

Has anyone else got the problem with Linksys WRP400 router which has been provided by Xnet.
I've been told it's a known issue about this particular model of router, it's getting slower and slower everyday.
It need to be rebooted every day to fix it.

I asked WorldxChange to get this router to be replaced with a working model, but it's been refused. it's really sucks.
It sounds like, well even we provide you a not working hardware, we are not going to change it. you have to be with it.
If you are not happy, change to another ISP is a not bad solution.

My question is that is there anyway we can get this problem solved by ourselves? Because Xnet is helpless.
I changed router with one of my own router, which is NetGear WNR2000, internet is working but the phone is stop working.

I'm really sick of this now, could some help please? Cheers,

Assuming you are correct and it's the device at fault:

The WRP400 does seem to be a bit a of a lemon, WxC are at the mercy of Cisco's software quality on their "consumer" devices.

I think it's reasonable you should be able to return device for a refund if it's not fit for purpose, then use your own router with an ATA.

Disputes tribunal if they refuse to honor NZ consumer law.... they normally have really good support so give them a chance to do the right thing first.

I'm sure I remember Maverick recently saying they are currently testing a new awesome device, not sure how far away it is, perhaps you can help them trial the new device?

Now devils advocate:
Are you sure it's device and not something else? Could easily be a power issue or something like that affecting the device.

There is a known memory leak issue with the WRP400 if you thrash them with excessive UDP sessions. I've deployed a couple of hundred hundred of these and only see it when people torrent.

How long have you had the WRP400 for? I've had one for 4+ years and it has been rock solid up until a few months ago, sounds similar to what problems you are having.

No idea what problem is but I removed all physical connections on network and now phone/wireless is working fine. I've just put it down to old age and failing hardware.

What are you using for phone if you have change to the netgear?

Use the netgear as your router, and set up the WRP400 basically as an ATA

Ragnor:they normally have really good support so give them a chance to do the right thing first.

I've called support hundred times and this is done deal, they told me "NO, we are not changing your device. and we know it's not working, you have to be with it. if you still not happy, changing ISP might be a good solution for you."

I was going to change back to telecom, but unfortunately, they don't do Voice over fiber yet, so they can help me. This might be why WxC said to me to change my ISP, I'm stuck with them and can't really change my ISP.

I don't torrent at all, I've tried turn wireless off, but it did not help. What you said here, I don't really understand, could you please give some more details about it. it will be really appreciated. Cheers,

I had it for about a year. Yes, it only happened a few months ago, same with your problem.
My NetGeare doesn't have phone connect port, that's why i can't get my phone working.

I had it for about a year. Yes, it only happened a few months ago, same with your problem.
My NetGeare doesn't have phone connect port, that's why i can't get my phone working.

So you have netgear plugged into the blue port on the WRP? At a guess you may need to setup port forwarding (from memory 5060) to get the phone working.

Logon onto the wrp400, change the connection type from pppoe to DHCP or a assign a ststic (recommended) and plug the wan port into your router, you can then use the wrp400 just as an ATA, assigning a static IP is generally recommended but will depend on how well your router handles SIP nat

Interesting, I don't torrent either but wonder if I had something else running at the time running UDP sessions.

If a router is fine for a long period and then suddenly starts having strange issues, try a different power supply. It is the number one component that fails as it is not designed by the router manufacturer, it is a relabelled components, so the router manufacturer has limited control over the quality.

You can never have enough Volvos!

Exactly what I have done, when I upgraded to Warpspeed 100Mbps cable the best I could get out of it was 70ish and I would have the problems you describe. I upgraded to a better router and run the phone on one of the WANs which works perfectly
