I am currently on a Smart Data plan but can change at no cost to a Red/Black plan.  As I got a phone with my Smart Data contract I have to change to a plan priced with a phone included (but not getting an additional phone).  At the time, whether or not you got a phone, the price was the same, the differential now is $25+GST for the same plan, with or without a phone.  What I can't find out from the CSR is what happens when I'm out of contract - does the fee drop down to the lower price, or do you continue to pay the premium of the 'with phone' price unless you re-sign a new contract and a therefore a new term?

Cheers

Andy

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Sure,

Business Red with a phone = $120+GST
Business Red without a phone = $95+GST

They are the same plan with/without a phone.  This was not the case with SmartData plans.

After the 24 month plan, does the price stay at $120+GST or drop to $95+GST.  The agent I spoke to kept telling me about signing up for another contract.

I assume BAU = Business As Usual so presumably it stays at $120+GST/month.

If out of contract term then I suspect it would be lower price have you read terms for the plan?

Yes it will stay at the same price, $120+GST
The 'without phone' price is when the plan is signed to a 12 month contract to receive the monthly plan discount. After 12 month contract expires this plan would revert back to full price as well

This doesn't make sense to me - are you saying that if you sign up to a 12 month plan at $95+GST it will increase to $120+GST after 12 months???

My original query remains unclear - I will ask in the local VF store this weekend if they're open.

It depends on your view - is 'full price' $95+GST? I would have thought so. The older plans didn't make the distinction as they were the same price whether you got a new phone or not, so it made sense to get a phone whether you needed it or not. It seems harsh IMO to carry this over to new plans which clearly have a different business model.

Of course it makes sense! You're signing a 12 month contract to get the benefit of a monthly discount, once the contract ceases the benefit you receive will cease as well.

This is on the money. When you sign the 12 month term you are getting a plan fee discount in place of a handset discount. When your plan expires you go onto a month by month plan at the original 'real' price of $120 and month excluding GST.

Neither of your statements are accurate:

There is no 'discount' mentioned on Vodafone's website for signing for 12 months.  There is no monthly alternative, so it makes no sense to say there is a discount on the plans for signing for a 12 month term.  You could argue there is a discount from PAYG prices for signing up to a term, but once your term finishes, you don't go to PAYG prices so it's not really valid.

GSP - There is no handset discount anymore.  You pay more if you want a handset and less if you don't so if you don't want a handset, why would you go to the 'with handset' price when the term ends?

Yes, but I can't find an answer.

The staff in the local store told me I can swap to the $95+GST plan but I need to call to do it....and the call centre staff want to put me on the $120+GST price plan, which I'd stomach if I knew it was going to drop down in a few months but they can't either answer or understand the question (I don't know which) as they keep telling me I can sign up to another term plan when my current plan finishes.

If you're on the $120+GST red plan, after your 24month contract your bill will still be $120+GST each month if you do not change plans / resign to a different plan. You will not automatically be reduced to the non hardware subsidized rate.

The same way if you're on the $95+GST non subsidized plan, after 12 months you will still be paying $95+GST per month. The only difference being that you are not locked into a contract.

Thank you, do you know if you can change to the $95+GST plan from the $120+GST plan when your term is up without needing to re-sign?
