I'm about to move from a Vodafone cable area to an ADSL connected home - not sure of the Type of connection I'm getting (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL) - in Hutt Central with no cable. Currently I have a Motorola SB5101 cable modem which has a Linksys WRP400 XNET/VFX Voip phone connection and internet access.

1) Will I have any issue plugging the WRP400 into a Vodafone Station SHG1500? I'm hoping the WRP400 phone line will work okay.

2) If I use the Ethernet ports and wireless on the Vodafone station will the WRP400 connected phone work okay or should I only use the ports and wireless on the WRP400 to avoid phone call dropouts and ensure QOS.

3) The vodafone station has 2 phone lines. Can these be configured to work with Xnet/Vfx or are they only for use with Vodafone Voip lines? If I can configure these I won't need the WRP400. Has anyone configured the Vodafone station SHG1500 to work with Xnet/Vfx?

Any help on these questions is appreciated.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

I'd not bother with the Vodafone Station. Just get a Draytek Vigor 120 (or 130 if you want to be VDSL ready) and stick that in front of the WRP400 in full bridge mode.

The Vodafone station comes free with a new 1 year contract so I was hoping not to have to buy something else. Perhaps someone will know if the VF station works with Xnet/VFX with or without the WRP400.

And you pretty much get what you (don't) pay for :)

You can always try it and see. Whether you need to run everything through the wrp400 to get QoS will depend on your usage habits. Some people will be fine without it, some it will cause problems, particularly if you upload a lot

If it doesn't work then sell it and grab an ATA like a SPA112 or similar for VFX

I've setup a VoIP service behind this router with US based Vonage ATA.

Out of the box it caused issues with Registration.
After some time playing with its limited firewall options and portforwarding, i got registration up but found there were one way audio issues.
I suspect DDoS detection on the devices firewall does not like VoIP media traffic.

Eventually, I had to disable the firewall altogether to get service up and working.
I wouldn't advise a solution like this as it's not secure.
I eventually ended up replacing the VF router with a TPLink W8960N (for about $70 - 80 IIRC)

TL;DR - Not a recommended solution.

Just an update to say that the WRP400 works fine with the Vodafone Station. Needed to call XNET who helped me reconfigure the WRP400 from using a cable modem fixed IP address to using a Vodafone Station changing IP address.

All users access the Vodafone Station, am using the WRP400 for Voip only with DHCP and Wireless turned off. Seems to be working well this way.
