Hello VF.

I was wondering if you were going to bring out Carryover deals like 2Degrees.

No teasers then lol

No worries. At least you know your customers want it and would stay if you got it.

I'll cross my fingers that anything like this would happen very soon then ;)

This an't going to happen I'm afraid, ... when i said to vodafone on their facebook page that they should do carry over mins they said  ''carry over mins are a marketing ploy and nobody ever uses them and then I said ''peoples usage verys month to month'' i also said if nobody uses them why not allow mins to carry over what would vodafone have to loose? they didn't reply cause they knew i was right and they just like miking the system.

This is actually kinda true with the way 2D implemented it originally, where every plan had 'bonus minutes' that wouldn't carry over, and they always got used before any carry over minutes would.

It basically meant people would either never accrue any minutes,  or would accrue so many that they would never use them and they would just expire.

Carryover on standard plans would be good though - 2D and Skinny do it.

Of course, unlimited voice would be better :D

I wouldn't see a Vodafone employee saying such over social media. So that should be something to look into.

On a similar note, what about making texting and calling Aussie included as part of prepay plans?

If it was worth your time and effort to post about it on here, then why not send the details to the Vodafone staff asking for it?!

IMO this is unlikely unless they are bleeding customers to 2degrees in large volumes because
1) In my opinion, customers don't realise the value of carry over minutes/data, and tend to look at the raw numbers, the package deal or discount, and what sort of phone they are getting.
2) Vodafone is currently the market leader
3) I imagine it requires a lot of software changes to implement this correctly, touching a lot of different systems. That probably means a lot of cost, and a lot of risk.

I feel vodafone might do this if Telecom implements it, but otherwise they won't.

IMHO it's one of those "features" that I see has very little purpose in the real world except for being something small players need to use as a marketing tool. Why? Because it delivers absolutely no benefits in the real world to the business and for most users. While it sounds a nice to have feature ("your telco isn't stealing your minutes") evidence from networks overseas who have done such things shows very few users actually use the carry over minutes anyway.

Offering a base rate and then paying per minute for all calls on top of that is the best way of setting pricing for an end user as you never have minute left over, and pay for exactly what you need. It does very little to maximise the revenue for the telco however and results in a lower ARPU so we'll never see that back.

I've often thought the coolest idea would be say $10 per month for a phone with the price per minute varying depending on your usage. If you used say 100 mins per month you'd pay (for example) 15c per minute but if you used 500 minutes you'd pay (for example) 5c per minute. The problem is billing systems are typically designed to rate calls at the time CDRs are created, not simply store CDR data and rate them on a billing date.

Because that was on my old facebook account that has now been deleted so there's no longer any proof that the conversation took place.

For all you guys asking for unlimited / ozzy minutes e.t.c there is one simple way to solve this.

Change provider.

2degrees has these options, if you want them, move with your feet. You don't have to stay with one provider do you?

The only reason I stick with Telecom is because they have a decent 3G network and their texts don't stop or disappear. You get what you pay for.

I am not exactly Vodafone's biggest fan but I agree with those who say that roll-over minutes and data are largely gimmicks. More importantly, for those who constantly want VF to match the offerings of 2Degrees, you need to understand this: you're asking a provider that sells its products based on having a premium network and service (okay the latter is bit of a laugh given the recent ludicrous wait times at the call centre at VF and their tendency to not reply/call back) to match the offerings of a provider clearly targeting the price conscious. These value-oriented providers are usually far less capitalised, invest less in their network, and tend to compete through grabbing low annual revenue per head users. This sort of battle is a constant in other markets also (e.g. Telstra v 3, AT&T and/or Verizon versus T-Mobile etc). I'd personally prefer to have the current market differentiation remaining.
