Hi there,

I'm wondering if there's any progress on my anonymous call rejection message question?
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=65&TopicId=13678

I have a refinement:

1. Change the message to "Sorry, the party you have called does not accept unidentified calls"
     (as before, this is because having "please try again later" in the announcement distracts the caller, and isn't going to help them anyway);

or (preferred)
2. Give us the ability to direct any anonymous callers to a seperate voice mail box - where I can set up my own greeting and give anonymous callers the ability to leave a message.

Thanks !

wayne

ps Thanks for the ability to change audio levels on a PAP2t - is there a way to be told about enhancements? (I can't see it in this forum but perhaps I missed it), also any progress on the advanced features?

Hmmm...  I've had to stop using this feature on all of my 3 VFX lines because it has caused problems.  When I enabled this setting, I didn't expect it to block legitimate callers at all.  However, this is what happened:

1)  One of my staff has a daughter who works at a Storage Facility (Storage King I think it is).  For whatever reason, they have Caller ID blocked on all their outgoing phone lines.  Maybe so they can chase money owed without people realising who is calling, but I don't know that for sure.

2)  A long-standing customer called from his home.  For whatever reason, they have an unlisted number.

3)  On our private line this time:  One of my wife's customers is a Police Prosecutor.  He tried to call us from the Courthouse and couldn't get through because they have unlisted numbers as well.

These 3 events have shown -- at least in my case -- that it's not a good idea to block Unlisted Numbers from calling.  Sending them to Voice Mail would be another option I guess, but in my case I think it's best just to look at the Caller ID when answering a call.  If it says "PRIVATE" then be on my guard as happened just now when some telemarketer tried to sell me a sponsorship package for an event run by ZM FM for kids.  Not relevant to our type of business at all, I wish these people would just GO AWAY and waste their time calling somebody else Yell

While blocking CID may seem an obvious way to block telemerketers it does create problems due to the large number of people who have legitimately blocked numbers. It's fairly typical to have CID blocked for any ISDN lines which accounts for most large businesses these days. Anybody who has an unlisted number is blocked (I was told a few years ago something like 20% of people have an unlisted number) and if you ever receive any international calls there is a very high chance they will be blocked as well.

It's a catch 22 between not receiving legitimate calls and trying to stop telemarketers.

Hi Wayne,

Actually discussing this at present and options to handle it, possible we will change the recording for a better match not fully decided yet and as seen here as well there are differing opinions and we are having some healthy discussion around it.

Point taken on the changes to the Audio Levels on the device's no we had not posted anything, it will now be there by default for users to control.

Thanks Phil, the audio was previously distorted and sometimes seemed to be clipping ... but it's all good now!  (I've set the levels to -10dB)

Yeah, I found the same thing with a Voyager Long-Range Cordless Phone base that I use.  Clipping is horrendous on loud callers with the previous setting of -3dB but -6dB solves the problem.

It's great to have the flexibility to change these levels as required Cool

You could do what they do in Aussie. If the caller is calling from an unlisted number they are prompted to enter a phone number to identify themselves

Anyone yet changed the level and checked if faxing is better?  If audio is clipping, then surely fax "sounds" could also be clippingl and added to transmission errors.

I discovered the new feature on my WRTP54G after noticing the voice connection elapsed time was reset 2 days ago.  There is a new "regional" menu which is blank, then I discovered that if I switch to advanced mode the "in" and "out" sound level can be adjusted.  Great, thanks!

What about giving callers with a blocked caller id an option to either hang up, or to press an option to have the call proceed with their number being presented?

This is something that is very to do with Asterisk. I've read of quite a few people in Aussie implimenting it because most of the telemarketers are all using autodiallers and it gets around it.

Definitely a choice in the web portal to either have these calls rejected with some message, or sent to voicemail would be great!

The "Advanced" features (as per my review) can do all that for you, and a lot more besides.

I'm not sure how far away these are from being introduced.  Maverick may have an ETA by now.

Cheers,
Grant.

I love the idea of setting it up so you can have a message "press 1 for X, press 2 for Y, press 3 for Z".  Call centers would not expect you to have such a system, maybe you can even put them on hold for 2h before answering the phone!  Even better, divert all calls from your phone company (except the excellent WxC) to hold for 2h before you answer it.

Seriously, it would be such a great service if small companies could have this feature and easily setup their own automated call handeling without having to pay contractors for expensive systems.  It would give small companies the image of being a larger company and improve their business.  Would also make VFX even more popular.

Yes, you can probably set it up with a Linux box or something, but it would be great for the non-geek users.  Or people like me where the geekiness ends where electronics interface with software.  Give me a menu setup or hardware with switches, give me something solid like an old Volvo...

Actually there are options that come with Business IP Centrex options that we are looking to deploy in the future that have Auto Attendants and a lot more, our Backend Platform is a very highend IN platform , however at this stage we are are only using a small feature set based on residential and soho services, using higher end services comes at a higher price
