I live at the top of a rather windy hill and would like to check out the size/shape of an RBI antenna and also how its attached...if they are monster yagi's then I'd probably want to put the pole up myself.

Also are they easy to rotate (i am on fringe reception pointing north, but will probably need to point south in a few months time to a new mast)

They look like this ^
Its - like a UHF antenna that you probably already have but the fins are shorter, and the whole thing is generally longer.
I dont think you would be allowed to move the antenna to a new direction without the installer coming back out to check the signal levels from the new tower and have your equipment reprogrammed. (i could be wrong)

The installer will supply an antenna that matches the distance / signal coming from the tower you will be connecting to. Its part of your standard install cost.

See here for a firm that's being locally manufacturing suitable antennas for years. These aerials are about 600mm in overall length.

And to answer your question about changing direction. Its as simple as slacking off a couple of nuts on the U bolt and rotating the yagi to its new heading.

Even better news... I just stumbled on the fact that VF RBI is now 30Gb by default!

maybe the RBI wireless CAN grow the caps as they're mostly going to cover the low density (rural?) population group??

Any which ways a good sign for future improvement

What kind of wiring will the installer do? Is it just a cable through the wall/floor like Sky do now, or do they install a wallplate?
Also, can you hook up an existing phone jack to the modem?

Depends on the installer and house. A basic install is usually down wall then either in through wall or up under house. When it comes in through the wall, then I use a face plate. The cable is continuous to the router, so it's not a wall socket as such.
Other more complex or premium installs we will hide the cable more, or pull down through wall if the is some existing cable we can use to draw with. It's really up to the customer if they want to pay over and above the standard install.
So yes, the basic install can be done like a Sky install, but ultimately the customer can opt for more.

OK, a couple more questions about rbi... Sorry if OT (let me know if I should start a separate thread)

1. Does RBI suffer from congestion/slow downs at peak times?

2. What speeds can you realistically get with clear line-of-sight to the tower?

3. What home phones are compatible with the 3g modem?

4. Can you get call id/waiting etc?
