Hi,

I recently switched from the 100/50 plan to the 100/20 plan and have received a higher ping with it, and am curious as to why.

Basically it has increased by 20(ish)ms across the board.
TeamSpeak Server 5ms to 17+ms
League Of Legends 35ms to 60+ms
World of Warcraft 33ms to 60+ms
Path Of Exile 30ms to 50+ms
Vodafone speedtest servers 1ms to 20+ms (Hits 100 down and 20 up every test)

I do use Unblock-Us, so I changed back to Vodafone DNS settings with same results.
Power cycled router; no change.

I would like it to go back to the previous state if possible.
Any help would be appreciated as talking on the phone to a CSR is painful and it took 16 days to respond to an on-line query.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Have you completed trace routes and pathping checks?

Are you testing over Wifi and these locations are outside of NZ and what did you put in the request to Vodafone via online?

The latency results you have posted seem fine and I can't see this been treated as fault

Thank you for your response John.

I have just finished trace routes on my connection and a friends (also on Vodafone) and we received identical results - both wired connections.

Sorry if this seemed like a whinge post was just curious as to the ms change.

Assume you play WoW on Oceanic servers???

I VF Cable and have never ever seen latencies that low!!!

To LA WoW servers I get approx. 155

Yup Oceanic servers :)

You notice the difference a lot. Have to wait for mount to fully cast and spells to fully cast, threw me off a bit after playing with that delay for 9 years.

For online games ping can be hugely important, and I'd be screaming blue murder if my connection went up 20ms.

VF Cable ping does seem to suck..maybe its the 10 in the 100/10 that does it. I also believe from reading these forums that the VF cable routes weirdly thru aussie which wont help.
