Hi all I posted a detailed question in Handset forum, but my main question may get answered here better. I have an issue with my new LG G2 D02 international model recieving 3g (and probably 4g) reception unless I am in a main city centre. Does Vodafone restrict the use or reception of the 3g service on imported handsets?

I haven't read your other thread but no VF do not restrict the use of their network like that.
Chances are your phone only supports 2100 3G and not the 900Mhz used out of the main centres.

No restriction on the VodafoneNZ side I would say the handset does not support 3G 900Mhz

Thanks for the reply, thats good to know. The phone is capable of all the required frequencies (and more) May be an issue with the handset itself then. So are you saying they use 2100 in say Hamilton and use 900 in the outer areas / rural towns etc or is it the other way round?

3G 900 is on almost every Vodafone site in NZ but 3G 2100Mhz sites are more common in the more built up areas for capacity

i have found that if i put my wifes 2degrees sim card in it works fine and connects to 3g. and my vodafone sim works fine in her s3. why would there be incompatibilty between my vodafone sim and my lg g2. when i try to manually select the network it finds vodafone wcdma but says unable to connect at this time

How do you know you are not connecting to a 3G 2100Mhz 2Degrees site?

Or are you saying with VodafoneNZ SIM in LG manual network selection to VodafoneNZ WCDMA / 3G fails?

Sorry yes manually it fails to connect to vodafone wcdma network. Would there be some kind of lock on the Sim?

Nope or it would not work in the other handset

So there must be a lock on the handset to specific carrier which is letting 2degrees work but not vodafone

Yes when I am in a main city centre I could get 3g. When I type in a dialer code to bring up sim unlock it says the phone is Permanently locked. Really confused what's going on. Is it worth calling vodafone again? Last time I called they just confirmed apn settings with me. It's just strange how it will register on vf GSM network and all 2 degrees networks easy but not vf wcdma

The answer to your issue is in 2nd post.

Your phone does not support the 'wave band' in that area. The 3G works in the city because it has 2100 wave band, outside town vodafone uses 900 wave band for 3G.

APN settings are only for mobile data connectivity, As you have an imported handset VodafoneNZ can not provide any official support so calling is not going to help and as you advised the same SIM card works fine in another handset
