Is there currently an issue with Vodafone Cable? I'm downloading a 9.1GB game "The Last Remnant" since last night and it's so slow! At one stage it will take 4 days+ to complete and I switched to Australia-NSW and the speed is more acceptable at 2.1MB/s. This morning when it dropped to 100KB/s I decided to switch to New Zealand.

Now few hours later, checking remotely, the download speed is at measly 52KB/s?!

It seems like other downloads that happened at the same time does not suffer such speed hog, SWTOR was downloading at good steady 2MB/s?

So question to Vodafone, what is going on? I thought Vodafone has Steam Cache (or at least TCL used to have them)... and why is the speed to Steam Cache so mediocre?

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

I have been having the same issue on Snap/2D Fibre for the last 2 weeks from the NZ cache. Downloads around 6KBs, highest I could achieve was 18KBs. Switched to NSW and back to normal 6-8MBs. I thought most NZ ISP's dropped their Steam caches a while ago with the change in protocol (http?)?

Change to the NSW server, it is MUCH faster.

How on earth did you get SWTOR to go that fast? My mate and I are lucky if we see more than 1MB/s and that's with one of us on Spark and the other on VF.

Please note: I have a professional bias towards Vodafone.

Jaxar: How on earth did you get SWTOR to go that fast? My mate and I are lucky if we see more than 1MB/s and that's with one of us on Spark and the other on VF.

Yeah that's what I did just earlier, switched to Australia-NSW and the remaining 2GB took only 10 mins. where earlier this morning that 2GB was still crawling to complete in 9 hours.. pathetic eh!

I'm astonished at the 'good' speeds being quoted here! I'm looking around now because I'm also suffering 20kbps speeds with Steam. Usually I sit on 20-20MBps (yes, megabytes, not megabits) via Vodafone cable but in the last few weeks it's been very slow and tonight it's almost dead. Looks like I'm not the only one then. I guess I'll have to call VF and see what they are doing about it :(

The Vodafone cache is the only Proper cache for steam in NZ for whatever reason, even with steampipe Steam does go back to those servers.

Due to the inconsistency, i stick my steam on NSW, netting in consistent downloads.

The cache you see for Snap (When watching reverse ips anyway) actually links back to their akamai servers, Which steam makes use of for their distribution.

How do you get 20MB/s on a connection only capable of just over 16MB/s?

I'm on VDSL with them and everything MS related seems yo be slow as hell, all apart from the Netflix app.

Downloading games on the console, signing in on both consoled and doing various things on the site is just waaaaaaaay too slow compared to what I was used to.

Sure its not steam but Vodafone may be throttling connections to gaming services? Idk hope not.

I can understand a mis-type on my phone given that I'm not a young fella any more, but not with my keyboard. Don't know how I managed to type '20-20' which you'll agree makes no sense, and I'm not even drunk. Getting bamboozled by my ultra-slow broadband that I've been (not) enjoying lately, I guess? I usually get 125mbps+ which translates to roughly 16MBps. What was supposed to be in the 20-20 was 12-16.
It's been very consistent for a long time but in the last couple of months it's been so bad that a couple of my games that I like to play with friends won't connect. (COD-MW and Diablo III).

I tend to switch between various Aussie and US west-coast Steam servers. Sometimes they're fast, sometimes they're slow. Haven't seen a decent speed from a NZ Steam server in a long time.

Heh, no worries. 12-16 is what I get, too :)

Cable has been sh(tuffed) for months but they are apparently doing upgrades at the moment and it should be back to what it used to be by some time in September according to the letter we got. I don't really care any more. I have Fibre as well and Monday is my last day on Cable.
