The freebie router from Voda has decided to die on me. IPs are dropping off all my devices and only come back after a reboot of the router, tried a factory restore but it's still doing the same. Checked out the DHCP settings and everything was on defaults and couldn't see any problems.

Just wondering if Voda replace these if they die, will save a bit of cash if I don't have to get one. Thanks

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

how old is it , even though it's free it should still be covered by it's warranty .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

They swapped out mine no issue, however it was only about 6 months old at the time.

I think it would be within a year. Changed over to 100mb connection around this time last year, got the upgraded modem and the router then.

Thanks Xpd, that was the answer I was wanting to hear. Did you have to send the old router back to them?

covered under 1 year warranty
last time I had a router fail VF sent out a courier bag to send the failed router back, along with the replacement router.

If you're given the router for free as part of your domestic contract and if the router fails and was out of warranty I wonder how or if the CGA applies in this sort of situation.

re-sign and get another free router I suppose.

Which router is it? it sounds like some of the symptoms the HG 659 has.

If so y, then you should check out the recent firmware update for it.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest. Here's a link.

Good point about the FW update
if your using wireless problems have been reported with the HG659
dropping connection etc might be worth trying the new FW.

VF new HG659 firmware

Its the Netcomm NF5 I think, updated the firmware earlier in the year for the sake of it. So not applicable here frown

Yup, sent it back after a few weeks of ensuring the new one was behaving itself.

Thanks for sorting this out Dylan, the help within the ISP forums is pretty awesome. Tech turned up and replaced modem and router with the all in one Technicolor item. Not sure of the username/password to get into it though? Its not the regular, admin/admin or admin/blank. Have also tried admin/serial number and administrator/serial number and with caps as well and administrator/blank.

I think you guys should have a "Buy this man a beer" button :-D

EDIT: Figured it out, it was blank/admin. No user name :-)
