Hi.. I'm moving into a rental property next month. It's brand new, so wouldn't have had a line connected before.

I'm just wondering, if I order Fusion and a tech needs to visit on site because of the above, what would I have to pay?

Or should I be fine without needing someone to come on site?

Because you have never had a phone line installed before, a tech. will definitely need to pay you a visit.

This should cost $149 as it says here:

But it would pay to check with Xnet first.

Thanks Grant, yes I will check with them. It may work out cheaper to get Telecom to connect a line and then switch, although it would lengthen the process.

If there are lines already in the house (odd if there wasn't) then as I understand it Telecom will, at their expense, connect the line from the property to their network. I am sure I have read this at the http://www.telepermit.co.nz/PtcSpecs.html site, I can't remeber exactly which document it is, but you can look at page nine of http://www.telepermit.co.nz/Ptc103.pdf for some info. Even though it is naked DSL, Telecom are still getting money out the connection. I don't think a visit from a technician is required.

Called Xnet, was told that as long as the copper lines are connected, it should be all good to do a self install.

Just been through this myself, and Xnet did have to put it down as a Full Install (even though cables were already in place). I haven't received my first Fusion bill though, so don't know if the $149 will get charged or not...
