Hi Mike


I already have Gmail and Hotmail - on phone (one Android and one Microsoft), and on Samsung Tablet. These are used whilst travelling in NZ and overseas to communicate with friends and family.


I prefer to have an ISP "based" email address for other stuff - as login for some sites, for e-billing, for sending and receiving documents/photos etc that are personal etc.


In future (after 30 November 2017) I shall not be able to do that with my Vodafone based email account.


I feel I am left with just one option, that is to close down my Vodafone account (homeline, broadband, email) and sign up with another ISP that does offer email.


I have located an ISP that would seem to suit me. And, I would actually obtain all that I want for $10.00 less per month. However, I think I am still within a 12 month contract. In view of the breach by Vodafone of its contract with me would I be able to leave Vodafone for another ISP without any penalty of any form? Is Vodafone prepared to do that, given the extraordinary circumstances I and many others are in now?


How to do I achieve a "without penalty" closure of all my Vodafone Accounts?

If you set up forwarding for your Vodafone email address then all the use you mentioned can still apply.

 

However, you're of the mind to leave then Dylan's advice is the best route.

First of all, why the public post? Why not just contact Vodafone directly? Secondly, how is it a breach of their contract with you?

Unless when you signed up they explicitly offered you something for a specific period of time, with a guarantee/promise it would always be available for you to use, I'm not sure how they've breached any contract?

I would never consider using an ISP email. Vodafone closing down their services and Xtra continuous problems over the years are just two examples.

An ISP email system is probably the worst place for those sorts of things

 

I'd trust Google, or Microsoft's (as two simple examples), privacy and security over an ISP offering any day

Why is it nuts I love my orcon email address even though not with them anymore, so much less spam than what I get in gmail.

Some online NZ services I have come across to require the use of an email address ending in .nz, which is where an ISP email address comes in handily. But far better just to buy a .nz domain and use it for email, as it is an email address for life, as long as you pay your domain registration fees, which many people forget about.

Regardless of the whole ISP contract issue (my view of which my personal view is that I see no reason for you to be able to legally exit a contract just because of the email service being stopped) I'm really puzzled as to why anybody would change ISP just to get another ISP email address.

 

Many ISP's now don't offer email. It's something that's becoming an increasingly difficult product to offer and when there are literally hundreds of free option, the vast majority of which are all a far higher quality product than that Vodafone offered, let alone the paid options which can range from a few $ per month upwards for email tied to your own domain there simply no reason I can fathom why anybody would use an ISP email address. If it's just a throwaway address changing ISP for that seems rather dramatic.

I wonder how long before other ISP's byte the bullet and kill off their email service.
I say good on you Vodafone for taking the lead. ISP tied email addresses have hampered people's desire to change ISP's because they'll lose the email address they've had for bla bla number of years.

I was thinking the same thing but good on them make it easier for customers to move but think of the cost savings of not having to support email

I get a lot into inbox on gmail its probarly the way i use the mail box, happy with my Orcon address hopefully they keep supporting it. I tend to use ISP email for more important email. Gmail i use for apps and loyalty cards. I do like that Orcon email is for life time which is great
