Hi,

I'm not sure if this the correct forum or the iOS forum but I'll start here.

My wife has used iphones forever and I've always been android. She currently has an iphone SE and I have a Samsung S8. We've been with vodafone for years.

As of about 1-2 weeks ago only approx 50% of her text messages arrive on my phone. Sometimes she will text me and I'll get it, other times it won't arrive at all. It's sporadic and I can't determine a pattern.

I've tried deleting myself from her contacts and texting my number direct (ie. without re-adding me as a contact) and still the problem persists.

I don't know how to diagnose this further or whether the fault lies with the devices or with Vodafone.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Stupid question I know, It’s not trying to use iMessage 50% of the time is it, is the bubble on her phone blue or green.

It's always green which I think means it should always be using SMS as opposed to iMessage.

Correct, go to a Vodafone store and ask them to reset both of your numbers on their network.

have you ever used an iphone for your number? if yes try to reset imessage on Apple's servers.

if not, ignore post

what he is recommending is VLRA reset.

i'd double check it isn't trying the imessage alternatively.

VLR update can be done with power cycle of the handset but the issue is missing SMS

I can't say the VLR and HLR get out of sync very often if ever maybe a duplicate address at the worse case

I've read online there is a known issue with the S8. Googling 'galaxy s8 sms problem' led to a few results. Maybe it's your phone, not hers!

Agreed. This is my first non-Nexus device since the Galaxy Nexus. I would've preferred to stay with stock Android but the Pixel is too expensive and I managed to get the S8 cheap through work. Samsung seem to over engineer their software with rubbish like this.

I wish there was a cheaper stock android alternative to the S8 (like the old Nexus range). OnePlus is probably the closest.
