Do Vodafone keep a record of IMEI?

The reason I ask is that my wife had her phone stolen.

To make a claim our insurance company insists they need the IMEI of the phone.

It has been blocked on Google, but AMI also want it blacklisted, for which one also needs the IMEI...

(Being Christchurch based, I wont go into what I think of insurance companies and "delay deny defend")

Unfortunately we have no record of the number and nor do we have the original packaging.

I am hoping that somewhere there might be some record of the IMEI against the calls made.

I have tried asking at the local Vodafone storefront, but they say that, as the phone was not purchased from them, they cant help.

Any chance, or are we just out of luck?

Yes for sure but I would be surprised if front line staff can see it

They might be able to in LSHS

Don't insurance companies go to the telco's to blacklist an IMEI?

There's a register that all telco's use.. I'm sure insurance would already know this?

Also.. yes Telco's do know what your IMEI number is.. Not sure what they can see.. but from my experience.. yes they can..

Just wondering, what if this phone was on prepay ?
The Telco couldnt easily find the IMEI then (?) , so no insurance payout in that case ?

@1101 What difference does it make if the phone was on Prepay?

Every single transaction with the network the IMEI is known

It might be on the receipt of wherever it was purchased from?

A network operator can determine an IMEI from the phone number....

The reason they want you to give it to them is that its a number that will likely only ever be known by the phone's legit owner....  but if you can prove the phone number is yours with other ID etc,  then they should be able to provide the IMEI ack to you....

For Vodafone it is listed on one of the screens in Siebel - I have seen it on my account - it listed a history of all the handsets I have had connected since opening my account.

Ok,

It seems, by consensus of the forum, that Vodafone will have a record of the IMEI used by my wife.

So, Next question

How can we get Vodafone to tell us what it was?

Yes, the (expletive deleted) insurance company insist they wont consider a claim without it...

Get the account holder to ask for it via email/phone. Dont go to the stores, IME they prefer if you're buying something from them.
