Hi all,

Got a client on Vodafone who has recently changed to Fibre from VDSL - they were using the ER-X with a modem in bridge mode before, so the ER-X is working fine on Fibre.

The issue of course is the landline phone - as this is done through the UltraHub, I'm looking for a way to make this still work with the UltraHub behind the Edgerouter.

I'm sure this will be possible with the right combination of settings - anyone got any ideas? Thanks.

Edit - just found this post, which is for the HG659 but in theory I guess it should work with the UltraHub too. I had already tried what was mentioned in that post and didn't seem to have any joy - would some ports need to be forwarded through to the UltraHub? At this stage it doesn't even seem to get an IP from the Edgerouter.

Edgerouter configured to provide address via DHCP on a vlanid=10 interface.

Thank you - any chance you might be able to give a little more info on the correct way to do this?

In this case I'm using eth4 - so I've removed that port from switch0, then setup a VLAN interface with ID 10 on eth4. I have the UltraHub LAN IP set to 192.168.2.1 currently...am not sure what IP range I should set the VIF to and what to do about DHCP on it? Or can I set both the UltraHub WAN & Eth4 IP statically?

If you had the time to give a few more pointers that would be great thanks.

Edit - just been playing around, have set VLAN 10 on eth4, and the eth4 IP to 192.168.6.1 and the UltraHub WAN IP to 192.168.6.2, has VLAN 10 enabled in the WAN settings. The Ultrahub tells me the Fibre connection is 'up', which is further than I have been getting, but don't seem to be getting any traffic through it at all. I would assume when this is setup correctly I would be able to browse the net on a computer connected to the UltraHub? Am not on a Vodafone connection currently so am not expecting the voice to work at all.

OK - with some more playing around, managed to get the router itself going - don't know about the voice as I'm not testing it on a Vodafone network so I assume that will only work when on their own network. Will have to go and try that later.

The process for ER-X was...

Remove the eth port from the switch (in this case eth3).

Setup a VIF on eth3 on VLAN 10.

Set the IP address on eth3.10 to be 192.168.6.1/24 (this can be anything, just needs to be different from the LAN IP on the Vodafone router).

Setup DHCP service on that same range - we found that we had to hard set DNS servers here for it to work - using the ER-X's IP didn't seem to work.

Don't know yet if any port forwarding etc will be required.

The above config works perfectly with the UltraHub. No port forwarding required.

I had hoped removing the VLAN tag from the WAN settings on the UltraHub would do it but no joy in this case.

So just to re-iterate...
