Tonight at about 10.30pm

Xnet speed test 1086kbps down / 649kbps up.

Normally the Xnet speed test shows about 8000kbps down / 700kbps up.

(Last check many months ago)

 

Resetting router (RTA 1320) makes no difference to speed.

I am not at my cap yet.

 

Router shows

Connection ADSL2+

Line rate 11539kbps down / 945kbps up.

Attainable line rate 14564 down / 649 up.

BER test shows 0 errors at 11809kbps.

I've had the same observation for the past couple of weeks, and I get very similar speed/stats. It happens at night from about 7 or 8 (slowed down to 3Mbps from 6). My upload speed slows down to about 300k! In the mornings at 6 when I'm in front of the computer it is same as day time speed of 8Mbps. It is the first time in about 3 years that the speed is annoying me for more than a day, and it's been a couple of weeks already...

(Note that unless you are on Fusion you will not get more than about 8Mbps.)

Are they doing what Orcon are doing now?? Throttling during the evenings? it seems like ISP's don't have much option despite the consumer wanting full speeds 24/7.

Cant wait till the upgrades in the pipeline in a years time to make speeds 2-4x faster....which bascially means we'll be using our limit faster :)

Same problem with me and my Fusion plan... For the last week or so my download speeds fluctuated from a massive 12mb down to a minuscule 1mb averaging out at +- 3mb. Logged a call with support (Jason) and although very friendly and prompt response, they gave me the usual blow off that it could be my wireless blah blah... Redid the tests with my laptop wired to modem and results were basically the same and now waiting for their ops team to come back with some feedback. .. Saying that, I’ve been waiting for about 3weeks for this new investigation of theirs to complete...

So what to do??? Move to different ISP? Or is it a case of “the devil you know...”

Slingshot Naked ADSL is looking attractive at present...

HELP ME ISP GODS!!!

I contacted wxnz regarding the slow down - my d/l speed had dropped from 7Mbps to a struggling 2Mbps in the evenings.

I received a detailed and frank response pointing the finger squarely at Telecom NZ only providing the Commerce Commission mandated 32kbps backhaul per customer.

Unfortunately, that is the only option, as that is what feeds the Telecom Wholesaled ADSL gear.
I've notice this issue affecting more ISP now too: e.g. I did a Snap install, and their speeds (local) are much the same.
I do wonder whether Telecom themselves have this 32Kbps limit for their own per customer?





Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

It would be interesting to know if Telecom have the 32kbps/user limitation. I am seriously considering changing my broadband connection to Telecom. I don't think wxnz would have enough influence to get a better backhaul service from Telecom.

Just checked my Xnet Fusion speed at 9.20pm this evening:


880k down/ 717k up


and


940k down / 754k up.


Router shows


Line rate


11539k down / 945k up




Not happy at all.




I have emailed the help desk and they are checking things out.


32k back haul agreement with Telecom reason given.


No feedback yet.


No option given for a better service.


I also note that I recall an ADSL2+ line rate was much higher in the past than it is now.
The drop may be due to increased users giving more cross talk.


Telstraclear have been offering a better feed ($20 to 30 more than WxC).


Commerce Commission have been emailed over the low speed issue and may get back to me in a couple of months.

Just tested now 945am Xtra in Ellerslie, Ak - got 2.61Mb/s down 0.71Mb/s up. (2.38 & 0.7 from my iphone via WIFI) 
- Seams to be the norm with us over past few weeks on Big Time plan. not too great but usable. 
I'm sure I used to get higher speeds on Go Large with old ADSL, but I'm not really sure when they changed to ADSL2+

To 1920 X 1080p Yes I will do that, though with the exception of one only all my tests over all times throughout the day have been in simlar regions.
