Anyone want to hazard a guess what this new prepay plan is going to involve? my hope is they finally have a realistic answer for the texting plans telecom has.

I think its more than just txting - they are teasing us with this teaser add.  prob some voice as well as take 10 finishes at the same time.

BestMate™ is a new value offering from Vodafone that will be launching soon

I'm willing to guess that you will be able to create social groups who you contact often where prices will be lower.

Sounds good for PrePay users.

If the social group idea is correct, PrePay customers could start using their mobiles instead of a homeline - asuuming the prices are low enough.

It would be good if Vodafone released something for On Account customers that let them nominate a few mobile numbers and have unlimited calling to those numbers. I'd be willing to pay up to $10 per nominated number per month.

From the Trademe forums:

"for $6 a month you can text call and video conference unlimited times your 'bestmate'. You can only pick one person. Rolling out to prepay customers first and then on account customers in Feb 07."

Just spoke to a Vodafone representitive, that plan sounds about right. The guy I spoke to only told me that PrePay users will get the new offering first because they have been upgraded to the new billing system. On Account customers will get the same service in about Feb next year after they have been moved to the new billing system.

The new billing system just allows Vodafone to offer a more complex range of services.

Its incredibly unfortunate that you can only pick one person, although it is called 'bestmate'.
They could make a lot more money and provide a better service if you could do it to however many people you choose, if you paid for each one.

I daresay this means that number portability between on account and PrePay will become available as of February. The interesting thing about this rumoured deal is that it introduces a billing cycle for PrePay users, which would indicate that the future will offer more services with fixed monthly fees to PrePay.

I agree entirely. Whilst this deal would appeal to some people, I personally can't think of any one person who I communicate with a lot, but I think Vodafone will have other offerings up their sleeve to cater for other users.

We must also remember that we don't really know the full detial;s of the new plans, we have only heard rumors and they may very well be inaccurate.

alasta: Telecom has been announcing April 1st next year, so Vodafone would probably follow suit.

So long as the price of TXTing comes down with the new plans, I'm happy. Otherwise, I'd be very tempted to jump ship.

Move to Telecom and keep your mobile number

This means on 1 April 2007 you can make the move to Telecom AND you get to keep your current 021 or 029 mobile number.

I was referring to the fact that it's currently impossible to move from Vodafone PrePay to Vodafone on-account while retaining the same phone number. Moving between prepaid and account plans without a change of phone number has been possible on Telecom for as long as I can remember.

April the 1st is the introduction date for mandated number portability between telcos.

If $6 unlimited text to one person it still feels a bit of a let down still from vodafone, slowly getting better tho $10 for 500 texts to any network still sounds good.
