As to why you didn't get it, no idea but lucky.

None of the telcos seem to explain what exactly happened when something goes wrong so I don't expect we'll ever know.

Is it possible that in a real emergency I again may not receive the alert ?

I just went back over it and I see nowhere there that they explain the recent stuff up and who/why certain people were affected and not others?

In answer to his very last line. Will I miss it. I wasn't addressing the other quoted input via FAQ.

Do you complain to noise control whenever you hear the police, fire service or ambulance drive by with their sirens on? They're alerting you to their presence and to get out of the way. Some people might find the sound too loud or obnoxious so does that mean they should get the written permission of everyone in the area whenever the sirens need to be turned on? It sounds as ridiculous as your comments do.

If you hate the system that much get a non-compatible phone and move on, the rest of us will hopefully have a better chance of survival for whatever natural disaster sets this thing off first.

Customisation doesn't end at knee jerk reactions like disabling it (though I would disable it, unless until it's actually live). Some might have partial hearing loss and want a tone that they can actually hear, deaf people might want their flashlight to strobe, and I just want a sound that's not going to render me incable of responding to the threat.

Again with the "my way is the only way" attitude. The same kind of attitude that got us EQC non-repairs & ineffective tsunami sirens.

My house has no noise insulation, I can hear my neighbours fart in their driveway, and still those alerts are louder (and much more disturbing) than a passing siren.

It is supposed to sound horrifying, that's by design to wake you/ get your adrenaline flowing.

A repeat of the 1855 8.2 South Wairarapa quake generated Tsunamis up to 11 meters. The Cook Strait is deep so the speed of a Tsunami would be anywhere up to 1000kmh until it reached shallow water when it would slow to around 50kmh. Folks from Hawke Bay to Banks Peninsular, Wellington Blenheim Tasman would have a matter of a minutes to be warned, react and get to high ground.

Its not about someones disturbed sleep on one night (a mistake which has been explained) it's about saving lives.

Well in that case it'd take me at least a couple minutes to respond, if that's the sound waking me up, and I'd be stuffed either way as far enough inland is at least a half hour walk.

Tornado siren might actually be ok - again it's the US EBS style tone I object to.

I also object to the pop up, it looks like a system error or spam, not any kind of warning.
