I have a Skype phone number for Auckland (+64 9) and was told I'll have to port it to another provider. Any suggestions? The name Telnyx has been mentioned, but I know nothing about them.
Am looking at Rebtel. You can either buy a subscription for the one country you want to call or an international sub. Trying to figure out if the pricing is in NZ$ though as it was $12 per month.
Edit can change pricing bottom of webpage but to Aus$
Rebtel rates are not bad. Subscription for calling Australia is $6 AU per month, and $15 AU for global calls to 49 countries. Wondering if you could use this instead of a mobile prepay. Cancel anytime.
*Rebtel’s Global Unlimited is a monthly international calling subscription that includes unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles in Australia plus 49 other countries (and counting). There is no contract or hidden fees and you can cancel anytime. Try us a week for free and see how much you like it!

I want to be able to make international calls to mobiles and landlines internationally without the other person needing to have an internet connection. There are many people who use Skype this way by topping up dollars. A lot of people use it because it’s easier than those international dial up cards and also cheaper. Have avoided both Messenger and What’s App so far. Are there any options that don’t require the person receiving calls to have internet as happens with older relatives overseas? Can you do this with Teams? Signal is internet only.
This is a pain as have taught a number of people how to use Skype for international paid calls and they were pretty happy with the cost and ease.
Hero VOIP line $10 p/m to 300minutes to over 3 dozen countries mobile/landline
Any views expressed on these forums are my own and don't necessarily reflect those of my employer.

What about those that use Skype on Apple devices and have money loaded, how can they use teams.
Cant load money now as we found out about a month ago - we used skype out for calling the Uk for about 15years… now just ringing from mobile. Congrats MS we are now giving that money to One NZ.

Anyone regret the loss of Compaq, Palm, Pebble, Nest??
Even being a market leader wont save a name over the long haul after being gobbled up...
Hence email, it is a standard that everyone can use. One "market leader" going under does not stop the entire system from working.
One of the advantages of Skype was its longevity, it was not a flavour of the month/what are the kool kids doing today, kind of thing.
So yes, back to email to maintain long term contacts.

You can’t email a 90 year old in another country who only has a landline.
Hero are not portable from what I can see. Rebtel works when travelling too. https://www.rebtel.com/en/help/article/214490118-how-can-i-use-rebtel-when-traveling/ seems you can add up to 5 numbers to your account.

Oh great, now we have to go through the pain of getting parents to use Teams instead of Skype...
My really quite blind mum in her 80s manages very well with WhatsApp. You (they) might find it a worthwhile alternative if they use a mobile phone.
With parents on the other slide of the planet I've long been a fan of Skype. It let my parent keep up with their grandchildren as to what they were doing and was easy to use.
I now mainly use it as a cheap way to call their landline - if this feature is available elsewhere please let me know. Thanks.

I have the Hero app on my phone for my "landline". We used to have an ATA with cordless phones, but the number is only for the benefit of my parents, since they're the only people still calling it.
People often mistake me for an adult because of my age.
Keep calm, and carry on posting.

What is that device that every one seems to carry in their pocket these days? Some 5 inch lump of plastic and glass. I think it's called a telephone.
I use Rebtel to call my elderly mother in the UK.
I get calls to any UK landlines or mobiles for USD5 per month.
It has the advantage I can call anyone else in the UK if I need to.
Note: due to the way it works, it connects 98% of the time (occasionally it doesn't seem to want to connect). I have the app on my phone and it interjects whenever I make an international call to ask if I want to use its service. Saves me having to remember.
Here's a referral code that will get you some free credit to try it (disclosure, I get some free credit too):
Buy just $1 of credit and get $10 you can use to send a recharge or to call anywhere world wide!

@Eva888 you can take your Hero VoIP number with you to the supermarket or the other side of the world https://www.hero.co.nz/downloads.html
