live in auckland in vodafone's red network area and it drops to $55 :-)

I live in central Auckland but no red network here. Go figure.

hairy1: Due to the commerce commission splitting exchanges into rural and non-rural years ago. Vodafone don't offer naked on designated rural exchanges. The pricing has recently changed from the commerce commission and vodafone have hinted here that they may review this this year.

Pardon? ANYONE can get naked broadband. It just might not be in vodafone's cheap zone. There is no difference between Auckland exchange and the Rangiwahia exchange. Doesn't matter where you are it's the same service.

I have been through the process several times with Vodafone and they don't offer it on rural exchanges. The address checker at Vodafone will not let you sign up to naked if you are on a rural exchange.

I wasn't saying you can't get naked broadband but you definitely can't get Vodafone naked on a rural exchange.

Exactly the same as what I've done.

I dumped the Vodafone router as it was a POS, kept having issues with DNS. Swapped for a Draytek, all sorted.

Nate, what model Draytek did you get? When you say swapped, did you buy your own router or did Vodafone swap it out?

I've been on the $65 Vodafone naked DSL for about a year. No major issues unless you want to port your existing landline number - that's hit and miss at best in my opinion.

Getting 2Talk setup on the Vodafone router was fairly easy though one or two people have had troubles with the process. It's well documented here on the Geekzone forums which is a bonus.

The main issue is if you ever need to use over 120gb data with Vidafone. You officially can't - it's the most buzz are situation of any ISP I've ever come across. Fortunately the one time I went over the 'double your data' amount I was offered a 'one off' workaround.

Also annoying is the situation I'm in with my Internet today. Late last night my Internet speed dropped and when I checked email I saw my 60gb was used up. My only option if I want broadband for today is to spend $30 to double my data allocation to 120gb (the last day of my billing cycle is today - tomorrow I get 60gb again)

While you can get naked dsl virtually anywhere you can't necesssarly choose your ISP. Because of the urban/rural split many ISP's (incl Vodafone) would not supply service in rural areas due to the increased regulated price set by the Commerce Commission.

This issue has now been solved with the recent Commerce Commission decision to increase naked DSL prices in all urban areas, and drop them slightly in rural areas so they are now the same.

Sounds good. I haven't checked anyones website to see though wonder; is it from right now, or do we have to wait for another couple of years?

Sounds good. I haven't checked anyones website to see though wonder; is it from right now, or do we have to wait for another couple of years?

Well pricing changed on the 1st December and very little has happened so far. I expect you'll probably see every ISP start hiking prices in the New Year, as absorbing the cost isn't really sustainable.

It was my understanding the cost was decreasing not increasing so why would they put the prices up?

The naked costs have gone up for all existing urban users, so ISP's will in effect have no option but to pass these prices on with their already slim margins.

The Draytek 2710 (not 2710e), He purchased it.

I got 2710vn - Drayteks are awsome. My dl speed went up 4mb/s when I changed to Draytek.

Useful thread. I'm looking at moving my broadband from WxC's Xnet to this Vodafone broadband deal.
I never use more than 60Gb of traffic.
My average bill from WxC is approx $110 per month. This would go down to $65 per month. A decent saving.
But I'd have to spend the $110 connection fee (don't want a term commitment)
I am a bit worried about the service I would receive from Vodafone.
WxC are very good with their service (not that I need it much), and their techo's know their stuff.

I too have a Draytek Vigor 2710n router - which is pretty good. Although I am annoyed there is no IPv6 f/w for this model. (I'd like to move to actually using IPv6 one day)
And I will continue to use 2Talk for my VoIP (just moved to their new 2Talk+ so I can use G.722)

How have people found the process of transitioning to the Vodafone broadband service?
