Should work fine as long as you're confident in setting it up. Alternatively if you are thinking of moving ISP, keep your VFX line with WorldxChange for $11.50 per month and change only your naked DSL connection.

Actually that sounds less stressful, cheers.

Well 2talk is up and running. Pretty cool so far.

Does anyone know with OneNumber can you transfer between phones? ie 028xxxx-1 to 028xxxx-2?

Cheers

paulspain: I've been on the $65 Vodafone naked DSL for about a year. No major issues unless you want to port your existing landline number - that's hit and miss at best in my opinion.

Getting 2Talk setup on the Vodafone router was fairly easy though one or two people have had troubles with the process. It's well documented here on the Geekzone forums which is a bonus.

The main issue is if you ever need to use over 120gb data with Vidafone. You officially can't - it's the most buzz are situation of any ISP I've ever come across. Fortunately the one time I went over the 'double your data' amount I was offered a 'one off' workaround.

Also annoying is the situation I'm in with my Internet today. Late last night my Internet speed dropped and when I checked email I saw my 60gb was used up. My only option if I want broadband for today is to spend $30 to double my data allocation to 120gb (the last day of my billing cycle is today - tomorrow I get 60gb again)

I have just today managed to setup my 2talk on the Vodafone router but in my case I did have to telnet the command mentioned in the other thread. Since doing that it is working brilliantly and I have put my SPA2102 away for maybe to resell to someone else who wants to go down the voip line

I just tried to sign up - over the phone - with Vodafone to move my naked DSL plan from Xnet/WxC to Vodafone. The agent insisted they had to charge me a fee to make the change - she said that because the existing account was not with Vodafone, they had to pay Chorus to send a tech to drive to the exchange to make the change!
Very frustrating. I assured them that they really didn't need to do that given I already had a naked bb setup.
I refused to pay for the transition.
Anyone from vodafone care to help/advise on this?

kind regards Andrew TD

Hi Andrew

let me do some checks,

If work is required then Chorus charge Vodafone and this cost could be passed onto the customer

Bugger! It's not the amount of the money that's a pain. It's the principle of the matter.

Thats strange because (to my knowledge) moving a standard broadband connection is free.

No - in general terms I don't think it right to have to pay to give / transition your business to a new service provider. After all - you are in effect choosing to give the new provider the ongoing profit from your business. Why should you have to pay to do them that favour!
Obviously I'm happy to pay for ongoing service provided.

It is of course not that black and white in real life. There are real costs to any provider signing up a new customer, and whether the provider chooses to recoup those costs in the ongoing monthly fee, or charge some one off "start-up" costs, or a mix of both, is up to the provider.

I'm just saying that I personally don't like being charged "extra" when I go out of my way to offer someone my business.

kind regards Andrew TD

Need to confirm exactly what the charge relates to.

You'll be up for a $25 fee to port your number, this goes to the losing provider, and it's charged regardless of who you swap to,from.
