Hi, yes sorry djpaubes, I did refer to your post, pretty poor form to spend a gazillion$ on a complex and forget to put a key ingredient in.

ajkiwi: I can't believe that my wife and I have started to talk about moving house so we don't have to use telstra for TV any more.

Why would you need to move house? If you don't like TelstraClear there is nothing stopping you moving to Sky!

I wsh it were that easy.  Body Corp rules on sat dishes and wiring put paid to that idea.  Like many townhouse and apartment complexes in Wellyland, we're hostage customers of TCL.

Me too bloody body corp. Although you can just put it up and then let them take legal action and drag it on bla bla. It would take them some time before you actually have to remove it :)

Maybe we need another (bush) lawyer in here to tell the rights (or not) of Body Corp and imposing such restrictions on home owners. We are not the US but over there in their litigious environment, apparently while a Body Corp can have say over satellite dishes, they cannot stop you from putting up antennas to receive FTA television that is a fundamental right of the citizen.

I guess you could argue your dish is to access Freeview and therefore cannot be banned :-)

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Seems like Mr Biddle was right on the CA, it's Verimatrix.  That doesn't seem to offer anything other than using the box that comes from TCL.  What a dammed shame.

That press release was interesting reading, I didn't know TCL had 400k subs. I feel a Tui Billboard coming on for that one.  Must be total customers not just Digital TV ones.

So nearly another month goes by and telstra still can't announce a release date. Anyone heard anything other than soon to be released?

Still no updates but they appear to be posting to their Facebook page every now and again, and as you can see there are lots of complaints there too (mine included.) Perhaps everyone here should post requests to their Facebook page too as it's a lot more visible.

With Geekzone and Facebook it seems that companies are feeling more pressure than ever.
Good on RNZ for organizing the radio interview and good on you Mauricio for taking part.

On TCL's Facebook page they said that they might be discussing Home Media as part of the interview on the radio. But after the interview they said that it wasn't discussed because Mauricio didn't bring it up. That just pisses me off - if they wanted to give people an update, TCL should have been the one to bring it up.

Personally, the driving factor for me upgrading to HomeMedia box was for the world cup.  I've got my TV now just need a HD signal and a box intuitive to be able to record through the night without the need for me to program two devices.  Yes I know this is exactly what MySkyHDi does!

Considering a) I didn't get to pre-register my interest b) they haven't had demonstrations at the shops and c) are unable to give a release date - means that I am very unlikely to get the box and have it installed inside the next 7 weeks.

I don't particularly want to move my TV package to Sky because I will lose my package discount, neither do I want to move my broadband and phone as they work great.  The simplicity of single billing and a cheap plans make me want to stay with TCL - but what can we do apart from complaining to apathetic call staff?????

I heard the radio interview and the interviewer spent too much time waffling on about cache for youTube to cover the topics.  I agree, if TCL said to listen to the radio for an announcement - they should have made time - poor Mauricio couldn't get a word in edgeways (good to put a voice to a household name in the Geekzone community).

Just had look at Telstra's Facebook page, its makes for some brutal reading. there are some super pissed off people on there. What a great way for a company to air dirty laundry.

Just to show... TelstraClear (like many other companies) believe "social media" is creating a page in Facebook and having a Twitter account. When people go mad with criticism on the lack of communication then the company abandons the "social media".

They also tend to think online forums - such as Geekzone - is not "social media"... How wrong they are.

Actually, if you look at the comments on the Facebook page, TCL have been posting there quite frequently. But they just keep avoiding the tough questions!

TCL have responded to most of the negative posts on their Facebook page with another useless answer:

"Alpha tests are going well, program guide looks great as does HD. Trick play which was causing most of the software issues is now working. Still a few software related issues to iron out and as the detail comes through we'll post it here."

Software cost is the hardest thing to estimate and that's a new platform

Can't agree more (coming from an analyst developer) - Perhaps I was exagerating .

Six weeks ago their problems were with FF/RW and DRM - If it's the DRM issue is causing the problems - I won't mind if they release it without DRM.
