OS: Windows 8 Pro
Browser: IE 10 desktop

I can right click and download fine but if I try to open or browse to a URL for a PDF file then IE just stops responding and asks me to close it.

Windows updates all up to date and installed? Adobe reader up to date?

I really don't want to install another PDF program when I have Adobe a creative Cloud. Just bloats the system.

Also IE10 is a great browser. Nothing like the older IEs of days gone by. I much prefer it over chrome and Firefox

Are you using the Windows 8 PDF reader app or the Adobe PDF Reader?

Make sure IE hasn't defaulted to opening the 64 bit version (you should be using 32 bit version). This happened at work recently to someone and they couldn't open PDF's or Excel files from the Intranet.

I'm using Adobe Reader XI.

I disable the browser options in Adobe Reader XI and disable the adobe addon in IE10

Now when I open PDF it just opens adobe reader and it works but ti wont open them within the browser

Good it works some way, not the exact way you wanted.

I personally rather have open the PDF inside a reader, not the browser. But that's personal preference.
