Hi all,

My laptop shut off the other night, because I forgot to turn the switch on at the wall when it was plugged in (doh!).  Now my Sound icon is gone from the taskbar :(

I restarted and it still didn't re-appear.  After checking my System Icon settings, I saw that it was greyed out and stuck on 'Off' ;

After going on Google and YouTube, I found this video that brought it back; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbyOyl_J-YY

fter shutting the laptop down again though, it didn't re-appear.  Any ideas what keeps causing this?   It's quite frustrating :(

Thanks for reading this.

Do you actually still have sound?

If it's greyed out it tells me that there is a problem with the hardware or the associated drivers, start by looking in device manager and see what it says for you under sound video and game controllers

Yes I still have sound, and can increase/decrease the volume using the Keyboard and the sound control panel.

I went into device manager but no yellow exclamation marks are anywhere, so the drivers are still good.

Thanks very much Nathan!  I restarted that service, then restarted the computer, and the Icon has returned!   It's also no longer greyed out in the System Icons settings box.
