why are my Windows 10 updates failing these days when for months and months and months they were fine. Loki you evil SOB I am sure its you. I can fix them easily enough but its a goddam pain.

I may by that MacBook Pro yet to accompany my iMac and rid my self of Windows PCs completely.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

We finally hit that point at work where we cannot purchase any systems from Dell that have Windows 7 support; as a result I am having to try and get my LiteTouch install for Windows 10 1803 up and running (now that a couple of programs I was waiting on have been updated with support) and running into the same issues I was having with Windows 10 1703 (that then went away in 1709) - that is, using CopyProfile to configure some desktop settings breaks the start menu and search ... At least Microsoft have finally acknowledge they broke CopyProfile on Windows 10 to copy over the start menu, but the rest is still "supported"

And why is it that Microsoft still insist that a BUSINESS version of the operating system needs to have Candy Crush and other games installed on default

I would add why does any version of Windows 10 need Candy Crush and other games installed by default

1803 has been a trainwreck of compatibility issues for us and our clients. 1709 was relatively stable.

I also can't understand why there are at least 10 gaming apps on each computer we set up now.

Last lot of 3050 (presumably will be 3060s) are about to bring a bunch of production machines to a halt.

Were also noticing Netflix being added most recently as a suggested app to users.

Don't use copy profile it's a poor way of customising the profile in my opinion, this is the process to use to customise the start menu.

I more or less do this for a living and have not used a copy profile since probally XP. You can script ALL the changes required to set up the default profile.

Cady Crush etc

REG LOAD HKLM\offlinereg C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT
REG ADD "HKLM\offlinereg\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\CloudContent" /v "DisableWindowsConsumerFeatures" /d 1 /t REG_DWORD /f
REG UNLOAD HKLM\offlinereg

There's a group policy setting as well, set it by GPO and it wont be an issue for fresh users logging if domain based.

Is Candy Crush much worse than the Solitaire that came with Windows 3.x? Maybe you got a choice whether to install that at setup time - I can't remember.

You have no choice on what is installed on Windows 10 out of the box. Unless your company has an image that doesn't install these, the process will install games, links to games and other stuff that people in business will never use - or should be an option after installing Windows 10.

15 secs to right click - uninstall from the start menu is not a big deal. But I agree - they shouldn't be there by default with Win10 Pro.

Not the point, should not reinstall on update. The Fall update installed atleast half a dozen items of crapware. Couple that with adverts Windows Pro is far from professional.

that’s great until the next user signs in and it doesn’t work for the Xbox app and others.

No that’s not true see my previous post.

But that's not out of the box - you have to have at least one user on the system to do the registry changes.
