I've just noticed this on the Surface 2, just added the VPN connection to it. I've refreshed the laptop over the weekend, will add the VPN connection tonight and see how it behaves.

I have issue connecting to my work VPN which is via Juniper (Junos Pulse). I keep getting 'parameter invalid' error whenever I try to connect. Only thing that I miss on the Surface 2 so far for which I have to jump to my ultrabook. Hopefully some sort of VPN update in the future will fix this.

nathan:
freitasm: Anyone noticed when connecting to a SSTP VPN that Windows 8.1 is not showing as "Connected" on the Networks list?

Connect to SSTP, slide from right-side open networks and under Connections tap the VPN name - it will show a [Connect] button even if you are already connected.

If you want to disconnect you have actually Open Network Sharing Center | Change Adapter Settings | right-click adapter and select Status - the 'Connect/Disconnect' item in the right-click menu doesn't work either.

do you see this just for SSTP?

If I change my VPN over to SSTP I don't see this same issue, both on Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT

Added the SSTP VPN on my laptop and this didn't happen. Restarted the Surface and it now works as expected.

The SSTP is a lot more reliable on my laptop now that Windows 8.1 was "refreshed". Before that, coming from a Windows 7 -> Windows 8 -> Windows 8.1 update it was unreliable, dropping every few minutes.

is that part of the Remote Server Administration Tools?

is your Server 2012?

if so you'll either need to upgrade Server to 2012 R2 or RDP remote into a matching server version

RSAT tool version must match up between client and server

http://www.iis.net/downloads/microsoft/iis-manager

Server side is 2012. This worked just fine on my laptop with Windows 7, updated to Windows 8 and updated to Windows 8.1.

Now that I refreshed the laptop when I try to install it says it's not supported.

Not quite a Surface problem...

So remotely managing IIS 7 from Windows 8.1?

worked ok previously under 8.1 because you upgraded to that from 8.0 from Win7 but now won't install, after you did a PC Refresh?

Made the Miracast/WiDi video today. My first video ever uploaded anywhere. Bit of a demo fail at the end.

Thanks. Do you notice any lag between the Surface 2 and the Action Screenbeam Pro? What sort of issues did you into with the Netgear PTV3000? I actually bought it for $80 from PBTech. Even plays 1080P 5.1CH surround video and audio from Surface 2 sweet.

Do you have some setup notes/equipment used?  I am just wondering about Widi displays at the moment, or whether to get something that works with the TV.  Currently I use the Surface plugged into an old 24" LED monitor via HDMI, would be useful to go wireless display instead.

Surface RT doesn't support Miracast, Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2 and Surface 2 do have the necessary hardware to support it when Windows 8.1 is installed

I recommend buying a Actiontec Screenbeam Pro Miracast adapter, the one in the video is a Netgear PTV3000 device

Damn, that's so much more useful than the Chromecast! Link to the Miracast receiver for the TV, please?
