Anyone has issues with computers not showing up under "Networks"? Can't get my computer to show up. All my computers show up randomly, sometimes showing sometimes not.

is this new to v1703

what are you trying to achieve?

NetBIOS computer browsing has never ever been reliable for me for the past 20 years.  I just map a drive direct to the \\host or \\ip.addr

What am I trying to achieve? to see the files on my other computers without installing other things.

I think it was the router this time - someone was torrenting hundreds of connections at that time and once they stopped the computers were all visible. Weird.

you can still do that without needing to browse

I have never had apps and games getting closed, windows telling me to close firefox, as many random stutters in audio playback and other weird things as I am now after the creators update.

It did fix adobe premieres inability to export without crashing. But thats no good when I might have to use another computer for it anyway since it gets closed occasionally unless I exit out of other stuff.

32 gigs ram, 40 gigs swap configured, seems to just never use the swap or something.

Windows is an ongoing object lesson in why you shouldn't update. I'm so glad I have that disabled.

I've been driving for 30 years and have so far (touch wood) never had any sort of incident that would have required me to actually be wearing a seatbelt. That makes me lucky. It doesn't mean that not wearing a seatbelt is advisable in the slightest.

Not performing OS updates that include security considerations is the same thing. You probably won't get caught out, but not doing the updates is still stupid.

Cheers - N

I would be happy to do the updates if Windows would quit messing things up every time I do. I am simply speaking from experience. I don't want to have to rebuild my system after every update. I do check for critical security updates at regular intervals, as well as Defender. When I have a day to spend putting back everything Windows rearranges, I also do a full update. This works for me. If I ever hit a tree, the worst that can happen is I will have to do a restore. That is a price I am happy to pay.

If you are rebuilding after every update, so close to weekly, then I would suggest user error.

From the things here I have been seeing about Creator update, I don't think the error is on the part of the user.

I have seen the odd niggle and only a few more major issues. If there were issues like you are suggesting it would be getting reported heavily. I believe you are reading too much into what you read. There are now 500,000,000 plus active Win 10 installs and I am sure the press would be running hot if these installs required rebuild after updates.

and the seatbelt will not stop car crashes, nor will it help in a fatal scale prang.
Lack of Winupdates isnt the real world security issue, the person behind the keyboard is.

Im not saying dont do them, but if they were so important why does MS bundle other crap into them .
My Windows7 does not need telemetry thanks, but I had to disable updates to keep MS Telemetry off it.

Any wonder so many want a way to disable them ? Do they cause as much grief as they claim to solve ?

Interesting discussion.

Sometimes I feel like with updates, you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't.

The thing in my mind is "Don't tell people to turn off Windows Update"

If someone knows enough to turn it off, manage Updates manually, and what the implications are, then so be it.

But don't go telling people (who are unaware of the above) to turn it off. They will be in for grief.

My main Lenovo workstation updated to the Creators Update of its own accord, and is working fine with all settings and defaults retained.

My VPN got uninstalled again, but its not officially supported in Windows 10, and happened at every other updates so no surprise. About as painless as it gets.
