billgates: I am bummed about LastPass not working in IE11. Add on is not supported. Have requested LastPass to add support for IE11 toolbar. Using Firefox as a browser on Windows 8.1

Yah that would be a deal breaker for me, lastpass is one of my absolute must have things, but it doesn't matter to me in this instance as I use Chrome which I prefer by some margin anyway.

MS have really focused on what's new in 8.1 from a Metro perspective, but anyone got any information about what's new elsewhere in the OS?

I'm looking forward to the upcoming Flipboard app. Been using this forever on my iPad so will be nice to also have access on my desktop. Be interesting to see what the new Facebook app looks like also.

what did you want to know, heaps of underlying new features and changes

probably start with the Windows 8.1 Preview Product Guide

Now that i'm back home, I decided to install this preview on a Microsoft Surface. Downloaded the link from the download site...

So, yes, there's that.

Microsoft's website says that the Clovertrail (Intel Atom) is unsupported, yet lets me still download the app from the Windows store, so let's see how it goes.   Probably just going to not support all of Intel's power saving Clovertrail features.

1. Place and rename the MSU file in an easily accessible place, e.g. C:\8preview\preview.msu
2. open command prompt in administrator mode.
3. Type: Expand –F:* c:\8preview\preview.msu C:\8preview\
4. Type: DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:c:\8preview\Windows8-RT-KB2849636-x64.cab

Restart Windows and go into the store, it should prompt you to update to Windows 8.1 from there.

got the ISO first thing this morning through work's MSDN access
Built up a Vm and used it as much desktop for the day.

I must say....This is what windows 8 SHOULD have been!
I'm not saying i'm sold by the new windows 8 interface / way of thinking, but 8.1 is a huge step forward in that way! a much more polish product

Envy X2.

Oh, I suppose then it would be a bit risky installing if the PowerVR (Intel HD) chip will just not work.

HP Envy X2 has the known issue with Intel video drivers. So I'd wait just a little longer for the new drivers

Any Bluetooth improvements - say like - tethering to an iPhone without dropping a connection and resuming correctly from sleep, as an example so to speak :)

So in theory I can upgrade my windows 7 Desktop?

"If you're running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7, you can download an ISO image and use it to create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive to install Windows 8.1 Preview."
" If you download the ISO, you'll need to enter this product key: NTTX3-RV7VB-T7X7F-WQYYY-9Y92F"

Actually not... "The Windows 8.1 Preview is not available right now".

Damn, and this is a Microsoft Surface. It'd have thought it would be easier.
