You can get enterprise without a KMS, but normally only through MSDN or the Microsoft Partner Portal AFAIK. I would be pretty interested to know where the person who sold it to you works and if his company knows the seller is using their keys.

There is no enterprise upgrade path without a reinstall to the next version. It doesn't come through a store or WSUS download like other Windows versions.

I would see if Lenovo can supply media or do a clean install.

Just had a look at that program you suggested and thats well out of my wheelhouse

I can get into the bios setup and it has various UDIA? something like that information and win 8 as type etc

is that the information I would need ?

just don't worry about Enterprise. Whoever sold it to you like that shouldn't have and you're not going to get it going with Enterprise, so you need to reinstall

If you bought it from a shop I would just take it back to them and make it their problem

So the saga continues

right or wrong it was suggested prior to your suggestions that I could (and I know I am may be not using the clever words) put a ISO version of windows 8.1 on a usb flash drive did that following strict instructions
then I have to change the boot up sequence

got into the bios but you need to be a supervisor to bring up the boot sequence to change by pressing the f12 key

which even after setting up the password access does not show

thought i had bricked it went it went into some sort of repair mode ECCChhh!

anyway we are back to square one as I cant seem to discover how to change the boot sequence

the annoying thing is of course someone knows how to do it in 20seconds.

The pain of not having masses of money to pay a tec to do it

of course if one has masses of money they wouldn't be buying cheap s/h tablets so they wouldn't have a problem!!!!

if you get asked for an administrator password when in your BIOS you'll need to get the password

Otherwise this is how you change the boot order

When turning on the Tablet, press the Power button together with the Volume Up button at the same time to enter the ThinkPad Setup program.
Insert the USB Key
Select Startup from the Blue Ribbon at top of screen
On the Boot sub menu, select CD/DVD “Generic Mass Storage” and then tap “+/–” until the CD/DVD is shown as the first Startup device
Tap F10 to save the configuration change and exit the ThinkPad Setup.

i get all the way to here

If not, thats your problem

Are you suggesting that if the usb key was ok (not saying its not) but if it was even though the boot menu and the access to the f12 key isnt showing if I inserted the usb key wjhilst in the bios setup area the boot directory and the F12 key would appear?

As i see it the trick is finding what one has to do to get the boot directory showingwhilst in th ebios
I gain access to the bios area by eneterting a password I created and put in the admin option and that part works well but the Mystical F12 key and the elusive boot menu is nowhere to be seen!

Getting there I have to format the flash drive fat32 its NTFS at present just seing how to do that with th windows 7 usb drive thingy

Answer

A proceedure to enter BIOS setup and change the boot order:

1. Ensure full power off of the system. Swipe settings, change PC settings, general, then scroll the list at the right to the bottom and press restart now. When blue choose option screen appears, press turn off PC.

2. Simultaneously press and hold power and the vol-up button for several secs until the lenovo log appears

3. Once into the BIOS screen, select Startup. then boot. Your attached USB drive should be recognized and identified at the top of the list. Press F10 to save exit and yes to then reboot.

You should be able to boot to a properly prepared USB key.

Please note - ThinkPad Tablet 2 supports 32-bit OS only, and UEFI 2.3.1 OS only. This means Windows 8 32-bit (or Windows PE 4, 32-bit). It will not boot to any 64-bit OS, and it won't boot to any legacy OS. This means no Win7, WinPE 3.x, or pretty much any other boot CD you've used in the past. The key should be formated FAT 32.

Lenovo ThinkPads shipped with Microsoft Windows 8 preloads are configured in UEFI mode. Legacy-based boot media will not boot successfully on Think systems. The following proceedure will enable you to create bootable Win 7 or Win 8 USB keys on UEFI enabled Think systems.

Start with a blank USB key of at least 4GB capacity.

To install Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 8 in UEFI mode, the 64-bit versions of the respective operating system DVD media will be required. A full Windows 7 or Windows 8 DVD media is required. An upgrade DVD may not function correctly during base operating installs.

To create UEFI bootable USB media that can be used to install Microsoft Windows 7 or Windows 8 64-bit operating systems on Lenovo ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, ThinkStation or ThinkServer computers, complete the following steps:

1) Open a Command Prompt with Administrator privileges in either Windows 7 Pro or Windows 8 Pro.
2) Insert the target USB boot media device into an available USB port.
3) Type "DiskPart" in the command prompt.
4) Type "List Disk” (make note of the disk number of the target USB drive).
5) Type "Select Disk X”, where X is the target USB drive noted in step 4.
6) Type "Clean”.

You don't need to do all that

You don't need the Microsoft USB DVD tool

You just format the key FAT32 and copy in the ISO contents

I think you need to start with 8.0 not 8.1

What I meant was if the key boys another system, then you know your key is OK and you can focus your efforts on getting the BIOS boot order working

Maybe remove the bios administrator password

And reset the BIOS back to factory defaults

Try again

PC stuff like this is often a methodical, trial and error

You don't need to do all that

You don't need the Microsoft USB DVD tool

You just format the key FAT32 and copy in the ISO contents

I think you need to start with 8.0 not 8.1

When you say start with 8 , doe sthat mean put an iso of 8 on a stick then after succesful boot change to 8.1 or do you mean

1. put 8 on a stick install that
2. remove 8 put 8.1 on a stick install that

I believe the embedded license in that machine is for 8.0 not 8.1

So install 8.0, then upgrade to 8.1

You could try installing 8.1 directly, let us know if it works. Worth a try as you'll know pretty quickly if the license key works or not.

Microsoft Diagnostic and Recovery Toolset (DaRT), ERD - Emergency Repair Disk

These are in English (yes, really). Made from US-English Windows 8/8.1 Technet ISOs.

Bootable ISOs for Windows 8 and 8.1, 64 and 32 bit versions.

After being unable to find English versions of these, I made them myself, and figured I'd save other people the bother of having to do the same.

This is the first torrent I've ever made, so I hope it works :)

If only I could figure out how to use it LOL

I have a TPT2 myself (64GB with pen and onboard WWAN) and have wiped the device twice.

Here's what I've found so far:

You will need a USB hub and connect at least a keyboard and your installation flash drive. Make sure it doesn't drain too much current (TPT2's port doesn't supply a lot) or use a powered hub. Touch won't work during Setup.
Make sure you get a 32 bit copy of Windows. The device is not designed for 64 bit, especially since Connected Standby won't work.
UEFI key is for Windows 8. However, you can install Windows 8.1, use the generic key for 8.1 at the installation prompt, finish it, and then change the product key to the onboard one.

To get into the UEFI/BIOS interface, it's easier to boot into Windows and use Advanced Startup settings to get to the UEFI settings. I prefer using a USB keyboard when in this mode because it makes things easier, but it should work with touch on the newer BIOS versions if I remember correctly.

I've used Rufus to flash ISOs to USB and it's worked fine every time. Make sure you change the settings so that the stick is compatible for UEFI boot.

EDIT: Also don't forget to download drivers for the device beforehand and load them onto a USB flash drive. Practically nothing will work, so having a USB hub with keyboard and mouse connected is important. They key ones are the Chipset and Wi-Fi, after which you can slowly run through the remaining ones using Lenovo's updater tool or going through Device Manager.

OK great to hear you can install 8.1 then swap keys, I learned something :)

I previously had the 64GB model which had the recovery partition built in. It sounds like the OP has 32GB model that doesn't have it.

AFAIK the Magic Jellybean tool won't pull the Key out of the UEFI firmware

Rufus is great, useful tool. But in this scenario you don't even need it, you literally copy the contents of the ISO to a FAT32 formatted USB key.

Maybe your USB key is faulty, try another
