Looks like they're being pretty aggressive with their supported CPUs (Probably about time since the last hardware requirement change was Win7)

Windows 10 will EOL more than two decades after the first amd64 CPU was released. Dropping x86 is long overdue. Dropping support for otherwise current and perfectly usable hardware, however, hints at an ulterior motive. Windows as a service seems like the most likely reason.

I'm not about to upgrade every PC I own (except possibly one), just to install a new version of Windows. I'll continue migrating away from Windows where possible.

One thing you can say about Mac OS - they certainly support some old machines with their later updates. Although those "older" machines are getting newer with each release.

Yeah, just out of curiousity, I checked my work-supplied tabletPC - fails with unsupported CPU.  Has TPM2 however!

That list shows a new 2 core atom at 1GHz is supported but my older i7-6700 with 4 cores/>4GHz isn't. Go figure.

I assume there's no actual downloadable build yet today?  Insider or otherwise?  I'm not talking about the leaked version btw...

I would say the leak is the current build.
Been playing around with it for awhile about the only thing I like is the dark mode.

Your very old CPU runs a very old chipset, which may have all the drivers cleaned out.

The new atom CPU will run on a new chipset and hence be supported...

CPU: AMD 5900x | RAM: GSKILL Trident Z Neo RGB F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC-32-GB | MB:  Asus X570-E | GFX: EVGA FTW3 Ultra RTX 3080Ti| Monitor: LG 27GL850-B 2560x1440

Not so. The line is arbitrary. TPM possibly plays some role in what hardware was selected, but that's about it.

Reports indicate Windows 11 (as 'leaked') works without TPM or even UEFI with a few simple workarounds. The driver interface also hasn't changed and the major OS version hasn't been bumped (I suspect it won't be), so even if Microsoft chose not to bundle drivers with the OS, downloadable drivers would work just as well with Windows 11 as they do with Windows 10.

Windows 11 is Windows 10 with a new interface and more bundled crap we don't want. The version bump does little more than make users more willing to accept change.

The video of the announcement was pretty painful to watch. An ‘Apple Style’ presentation without any of the Apple style. The presenters looked washed out and unenthusiastic. Perhaps they had been up all night practicing.

In fact the YT comments section had more zing than the presentation itself.

Since their opening (important) reveal was that they had moved the start menu into the middle of the screen, and I don’t use multi screens, I think I’ll be waiting a while to upgrade.

It looks promising but I don't like the inclusion of the Amazon App Store in the Windows store, the less support for that abomination of a empire the better

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Why not? The tech oligarchy need to support each other don’t they? :-/

It is a shame that the system check tool that MS provides fails to show why your PC doesn't pass/isnt supported.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-nz/windows/windows-11-specifications

I wonder if some of the optional features are bleeding over and causing the tool to report "unsupported"?

Exciting times though - looking forward to the challenges it will provide in rolling it out!

Just check 3 of my PCs here on Win 10 all failed the Win 11 health check.  Pity it doesn't say why..

Also enabled fTPM waiting for it to do its thing...

I hear you need to have had the Covid vaccine for the TPM to integrate with the chip installed in your arm.

It supports Intel/AMD too, not just Arm.

How many here know what this REQUIRED hardware spec means ?
Smode: Smode is false, or Smode is true and C_ossku in (0x65, 0x64, 0x63, 0x6D, 0x6F, 0x73, 0x74, 0x71)

MS dropped the Ball over this announcement .
Too much confusion over requirements etc. Hardfloor, softfloor . Just why ?
Now the interweb is running rampant with FUD, assumption and false information .

The CPU list is getting some hot under the collar.
Its the list for Hardware Developers . So is that list also a hard & fast list for requirement to upgrade ?

I've seen a reference to 'drivers being bundled with the Windows OS' a couple of times now. It's important to call out that the drivers included with the Windows OS provide basic/core functionality to get the OS running. Windows devices bought from HP/Acer/Dell etc, include drivers sourced from the OEM hardware suppliers and are installed with whatever bundled software into the OS by the manufacturer.

Vanilla Windows OS installations will always require drivers to be installed from a driver CD/DVD (if provided), downloaded from the internet or installed through Windows Updates.

The drivers that are installed from Windows Updates are all provided by the hardware manufacturers to Microsoft. They may not be the very latest versions of the drivers as there will be a delay between the release of the driver to when the driver is added to Windows Updates.
