Are you sure, Brad? I can't update. still get the "error 28":

"An error occurred while connecting to the Internet. Check your Internet connection and try again. (28)".

And yet my internet connection is fine.

oh by the way. anyone noticed the Help and Supports isn't working? I tried using "F1" and kept telling me "Internet Explorer cannot download / from {windows|help|anything}. Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."

Do you have a Marvell Yukon NIC? If so then thats your problem....

Yeah, I'd check the NIC if I were you, Chiefie.

32-bit Vista installed and it's running OK... my 128MB GeForce GT6600 only rates 4.6 in performance though :\

How do you bump up the font size for the UI in Vista? It looks like I'll be able to run it in 16*12 unlike XP, but need slightly bigger fonts for legibility's sake.

How do you get a 4.6? I have the exact same card and it gets a 1.....

To change the font size... Go to Personalize > Window Colour and Appearance > Open classic dialog. Select Vista Aero and click advanced.

Chiefie there are some issues when using a Marvel Yukon NIC, the symtoms you have described are exactly this problem... This is fixed in RC1.

Just finished installing Windows Vista RC1. A bit disapointed:

1.Microsoft's own Wireless Desktop Elite Cordless Keyboard and Mouse still won't work without installing the proper drivers downloaded from www.microsoft.com/hardware. However, the installer won't run on Windows Vista, so you have to extract the driver and manually update the mouse device. Without this driver, the mouse pointer jumps around the screen like crazy and you never know what's gonna be clicked.

2.Disk Cleanup says clearly that by removing the Hibernation File the Hibernate feature will be disabled, and to use the Control Panel to enable it again. Guess what? You check the file to be removed, and it won't remove the file, and won't disable Hibernate either.

3.In all previous versions I installed the on-board sound card worked fine. On this version it says "No audio device installed".

4.In my first boot with the install DVD it would not list any of the S-ATA drives. I had to reboot in Windows XP, download the SATALINK drivers (www.siliconimage.com) and extract to a floppy disk (which I usually don't have). On rebooting the installer found the drives without even asking to search or looking on the floppy disk. Waste of time?

5.I can't find the option to disable Hibernate. It's not in Power Options anymore, but the help says so...

I've created a new Power configuration, with no sleep and selected it. After this I was able to delete the Hibernation file.

Mauricio

The sound card drivers are on Windows Update

To change the behaviour of the power buttons... go to Control Panel > Power Options. Select the plan you wish to use and click change plan settngs. Click advanced and scroll down to Power buttons and lid.

The majority of reports are very positive with regards to RC1, the only issues seem to be the odd hardware problem. Performance is apparently another big step up above build 5536 which im still using. Can't wait till RC1 DVD arrives.... Stupid 10Gb cap

if you run CMD as Administrator and do "powercfg -h off" then you can disable hibernation.

And Brad, i don't use that NIC, the NIC is recognised by Vista 5536 just fine and I can get onto the Internet without difficulty but it is Trend Micro that doesn't think it is connected to the net. And the help, it thinks it is not connected.

Chiefie what router are you using? Try using this from an elevated command prompt:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

There is a problem with some routers and auto tuning.

Mauricio... My Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse work fine. No need to install at all. Vista automatically recognises them.

I don't want to change the Power Button behaviour. I wanted to disable Hibernate completely, including removing the Hibernate file from my system (about 2GB).

As for the sound - no, Windows Update says it's all nice and updated. Still no sound. I will have to look for drivers for this motherboard. Pain. It worked with all previous versions I tested.

Hmmm. Are you using the USB connector or the old DIN? I am using the DIN.

What does that do? Tried that and still get Error 28 with Trend Micro update.

Also, the router is DI-524.

Has Trend Micro actually solve their update server problem?
