I am downloading it now, but even at 10Mbps it will take a few hours to get it. The pipes are clogged(TM).

While we wait for Stuff to Arrive over the Internets Tubes, howzabout some hints & tips for a multibooter box? Two disks (400GB each) and I'd like to run:

  • XP SP2 32-bit
  • Vista RC1 32-bit
  • Vista RC1 64-bit
  • A Linux distro (probably SuSE, as I want to test drive XGL)
Oldest OS first rule dictates XP as numero uno, followed by Linux, and then 32-bit and 64-bit Vista. Should probably put Linux in there first though, but can GRUB boot Vista?

Vista doesnt like Grub and will eat it.

It doesnt matter which order you install Vista and XP, if each has their own partition then you can use Vista boot pro to configure the boot loader and add entries... Very esy.

Hello guys. i got build 5536 installed (Pre-RC1) however it doesn't like Avast! 4 Antivirus Home Edition. And it has been reported that Pre-RC1 to 5600 (RC1) does not work properly with Avast! However works fine with AVG.

I do want to use Avast! And anyone managed to get it to work? Suggestion for alternative AV may be considered.

Also, I see that 5536 has problem with Mobility Radeon 9x00 driver (with the shipped XDDM driver), I had to install XP WDM's driver.

Im still using 5536 as I type this... Download Trend Micros PC Cillin, its very very good.

Upgrading 5536 to RC1 is not a supported scenario... It may work but its not something that MS are keen on... no bug reports etc will be valid by doing this...

Thanks Brad and Mauricio. Found some instructions here , which I'll try. Not keen on multiboot boxes, but it's the only practical solution at the moment...

For some reason Vista kept reporting Trend Micro beta isn't up to date eventhough it was freshly downloaded (version 14.56). and using Trend Micro's update isn't helping as it tries to download 20MB update and failed half way through the update download. Any idea what to do to get any of the AV working? (Avast was working fine until 5536)

Chiefie it is an issue with the Trend Micro update servers....

Expect it to be fixed very soon. Trend micro is the best AV software out there. I've had version 2004, 2005, 2006 and now the Vista version and its never once let a virus through. Its the best software Ive ever brought. Now if only we could get the 50% who are still using Norton to switch to something like TM then there would be less hassles for everyone. But i digress.....
