nathan: what are the specs of your machine and what Windows 10 build are you on?

when I Start, calc, enter it literally starts up immediately and can have numbers entered into it straight away

i7 2600K (which is about 10% slower than the latest generation), 16GB RAM, 120GB SSD plus various other disks, latest generation motherboard that fits that CPU (just replaced it).

What Windows 10 build are you on?

it starts up just as fast as a Win32 app for me

timmmay: Can they please get rid of the modern calculator too. It's slower to launch, slower to use, and has no advantages.

It has the advantage it's usable on a touchscreen, whereas the desktop calculator isn't.

If people don't want modern UI apps the simplest solution is to simply use a start menu replacement so you've never ever exposed to them unless you go to the modern UI home screen.

you shouldnt need to use a startmenu replacement.

I hate the new calculator in windows 10....  start + r + "calc" is something I use a lot.

Using a Surface here and have no problem with Calc... Tim, could it be an AV problem?

I've noticed my HP EliteBook was really slow to start programs but really fast during use. I tracked this down to MalwareBytes protection. Disabled it and it's all fast now...

Unlikely, it loads, thinks about it, then displays. I can check later though.
