Oh the joy of Windows today. Update to 1903 went flawlessly. No SSD or USB drives to interfere with anything here.

A vast difference from the windows I originally started with, v3.0, and office 2, and all of the work involved in keeping those, and subsequent versions, going. .ini files and registry hacks to fix the things that microsoft managed to inadvertently break.

Something with the update process making a mess of assigned drive letters. Apparently (as I found out) it seems to affect some SATA drives too.

Because the quality assurance testing prior to rollout is so good. [/joke]

I've been running 1903 (64bit pro) on a desktop here for just on a month now and have struck no issues whatsoever, except for a mildly annoying one with Spotify which has forced me to alter power management but then again (as @michaelmurfy and @freitasm know) my system is fairly basic.

Well, I guess when I get back from Europe I can (hopefully) download the VL version and see if we can use it in our production systems; I didn't end up getting 1809 working in our environment as I thought 1903 was coming soon .. soon turned into not soon enough

Still can't get 1809 installed at home, so I hold out little hope of getting 1903 :-)

Install on my desktop @ home went through no problems (ssd + raid + sata) yet my laptop gave this error:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-nz/help/4500988/windows-update-hold-for-windows-10

Looks like it's a known issue.  I did indeed have an SD card plugged in.

I've recently upgraded the machines in my house from W7 to W10 v1903 and I think I've found a bug in this new OS

On a whim I ran a browser based speed test on my Gig connection and was surprised that the download speeds were approximately 1/2 what I was expecting.  Upload seemed to be fine.

I tried Speedtest, Ookla, nperf, Chrome, IE11, and Edge and got the same results on all using the same test servers.  Swapped out the router, same again.  Power cycled the ONT, isolated everything  etc etc etc.  The usual testes you do.

Orcon confirmed that they couldn't see an issue, and low and behold, when their in house testing tool was run on my machine, the results showed 930 down and almost 500 up.

I then downloaded the Speedtest Windows app, and this too confirmed the speed at 915+ down and 500 up.  3 machines have the same issue.

So. . . .  It looks like there is an issue with W10 1903 and all browsers that I have tested with, running and getting accurate results from browser based internet speed tests.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?

You just migrated to Windows 10 so you haven't seen it before, but this has been happening for a couple of years now. Also make sure you have the latest network drivers from the manufacturer or OEM. Windows drivers are completely bad for performance.

Thanks freitasm.

All drivers are up to date. I checked just after installing on each of the machines..

It is surprising that Orcon never mentioned anything about this in the 40 minute support call?! Surely they must have has other customers on W10 complaining about the same thing.

It took a lot complaining about speeds and then 2degrees sent to me a testing machine with Linux installed. We let it run here for a few days and realised it always went full line speed, while our Windows machines wouldn't.

I don't think Orcon frontline would know this.

To test, just get a Linux ISO, burn into a USB drive and boot from there. Then run your tests...

Hmm... I just noticed this laptop is still on 1803.

My laptop is not particularly old, an HP Probook 430 G3.

Would there by any reason why 1809 has not installed yet, given 1903 is now out?

Are you on the latest 1809 updates??  My wife's laptop has it waiting and she is currently on 1809 build 1763.529 I'm going to give it another week before I install it just in case.

@old3eyes 1809 isnt even waiting in Windows Update. Winver says 1803, and Windows Update says it is up to date.

I know I can force the update, but given that it hasnt happened "naturally" I am wondering if MS thinks maybe my laptop is not 1809 compatible??
