I have a SP2 but no DisplayPort out devices to test it against

Just ordered one of the Dell UltraSharp 29 Ultrawide Monitor - U2913WM which has a DP out port, but still waiting for it to arrive

I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be yes it works

macuser: Surely Microsoft will be sponsoring some units to community members to increase awareness in the professional community!!!!

I like the way you think!!

Would be awesome to see Microsoft do something similar to the TelecomTech blogs for the SP2, hybrid tabets are the way fo the future for 95% of end users, help get the message out there!!

Is there somewhere to get a list of which retailers are expected to have it at release? I just asked our local Noel Leeming and they said they are expecting it start of November (rather than 22 October as posted above). Perhaps they're incorrect or out of date in their info?

nathan: yes they are both launching in NZ on Oct 22

Great, thanks. Any word on when the docks will become available?

official answer is early next year.  I have one now they are really well put together and work well to let you use the touchscreen and Type Cover keyboard while the Surface Pro 2 is sitting in the dock.

I know that the SP1 doesn't support daisy chaining, but does the dock just pass through the SP1's displayport connection or does it interface through the bottom connector only? I think (need to check) that an HD4000 GPU can support daisy chaining, provided the cinterface is displayport 1.2? So it could conceivably work for the SP1 too. Thoughts?

JB HiFi will have the Surface on release.
I don't have any idea of stock availability

Oh good so they are definitely happening. Can you dock it with the type cover folded up still, using external keyboard, mice and monitor? Or do you have to have the keyboard laying out to dock?

Yes Nathan but that's not a limitation of the SP's graphics chipset or anything as far as I know. I'm pretty sure the HD4000 does support daisy chaining. How does the dock connect to the actual tablet? Through the displayport connection, usb 3.0 port etc that are already there? Or some other way such as through the bottom?

Looking at this video and the images ive seen it appears to connect as follows

USB on the left-hand side
Power & mDP on the right.

As in the video it does state that it supports Daisy Chaining of monitors

There was an xbox one at Teched.  But I forgot to ask someone to go get a sky/T-box and plug it in to see if it worked.  Knew there was a reason I should have gone to TechEd this year.

Nathan,

Are you able to confirm is the Surface Pro 2 support Miracast or WIDI?

Daisy chaining mDP requires 1.2, the Surface Pro uses 1.1a

The Surface Pro 2 uses mDP1.2 so does support daisy chaining

The Surface Dock works with both Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2, the dock uses the connections either side of the Surface Pro / Surface Pro 2, it doesn't use the keyboard cover connector at the bottom
