Tinkerisk:

GEOMAX:

... so why did you not buy the lifetime Office 365.

'cause I host my data either on my own physical cloud/server or nowhere.

my question was meant to ask not what cloud you use but as 365 office has provision to download on  up to 5 windows 10 PCs and 5  Android devices and most people are now multi device users why buy a single use office 2016.

I don't think there is a lifetime Office 365? You have to renew the subscription.

I think you are confusing the Office 365 annual subscription based Home version, which yes allows for installation on 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets and 5 phones for up to 5 users, with the one-off purchase cost of Office 2016 - which only allows for installation on one machine for one user.

There are obviously Business versions of these as well, but Microsoft's terminology is basically the same: "Office 365" for subscription based licensing models and "Office 2016" for one-off purchases.

no confusion on my part tinkerish earlier explained about eu regulations etc and the noise that followed. Now searching for office 2016 pro 365 one payment only  you can find 10s of thousands of positive feedback on ebay and the web. Looking further you can find some comments saying the main account name  on some is educational institutes. Sounds like on selling bulk licenses ? I wait for his reply.

365 Buseness
"Each user can install Office on 5 PCs or Macs, 5 tablets (Windows, iPad, and Android), and 5 phones."

So what can and does happen , the business owner/manager uses a single lic & installs it on 5 user workstations. This works.
Yes its a loophole. Ive been told that MS support said that is OK/legal .

Its all MS's own fault for making licensing a confusing little understood mess.

It's not a loophole. It's not confusing. It's clearly spelled out so you can have this installed on a work PC and at home if needed/wanted.

Obviously then someone (a company, school or hospital) paid for the licenses and someone just copied the license numbers and is selling on eBay and other venues.

Good positive feedback? Sure, someone sold something and someone received something. Deal done.

Positive feedback on eBay doesn't make it legal. Someone still got a pirated copy of something that shouldn't be distributed outside the terms of the licence.

eBay will take down pirate copies if someone complains - the copyright owner. Microsoft will from time to time arrange for some listings to be removed but others show up.

Just because it's listed on eBay doesn't make it legal.
